Today, on Juneteenth, we commemorate the emancipation of enslaved African Americans and reflect on the journey towards equality and inclusion in all aspects of society, including America's pastime: baseball.
From the historic moment Jackie Robinson broke the color barrier in 1947 to the incredible Black athletes dominating the field today, baseball has come a long way. These trailblazers showcased their immense talent and paved the way for future generations.
Last week, the Hillsboro Hops invited Orlando Williams and the rest of the Motus team to a game celebrating Juneteenth β honoring the rich history and culture of the Black community. Along with throwing out the first pitch (!), Orlando was able to share the importance of supporting diversity and inclusion efforts and contribute to the economic empowerment of the Black community.
Let's continue to celebrate progress, unity, and shared humanity. βΎοΈπ
