Life isn't left-wing or right-wing. They're people under the rubble.
Colombia is living through the worst seismic tragedy in its recent history: more than 250 dead, thousands injured, thousands missing. And while the clock is running out — because every minute under the rubble could be the last — the government decided to reject international rescue assistance from Mexico, China, El Salvador, Chile, and even the United Nations.
We're not talking about money. We're talking about search teams, doctors, canine units, people trained to pull survivors out from under concrete. And that support was left stranded by the government's own decision, at a time when the country didn't even have a director for UNGRD, the agency that was supposed to coordinate all of this.
And the first image the country got of its president wasn't someone grasping the gravity of the moment — it was someone smiling, waving, and blowing kisses before even addressing the earthquake.
This isn't an ideological debate. It's outrageous that countries are offering food, money, rescuers, humanitarian aid, and they're being told it's not needed, while families are still searching for their loved ones under the rubble. The earth doesn't ask about ideology when it shakes. Neither do the dead.
Colombia needed a government equal to the tragedy. Instead it got one that hasn't measured up to anything.
