Ballew's Hitch, Truck & RV is a third generation, family owned business operating in Tacoma, WA for 71 years. Ballew's main business is the sale and installation of towing products. Started by Thomas Ballew in 1945 as a welding and trailer frame building shop. Tom realized a need for a specialized shop dedicated to the young and growing RV industry. He opened Ballew's Welding & Trailer on South Ta

coma Way in 1948. It's at that location Ballew's built the company reputation as the towing equipment specialists. Tom brought his three sons, Bob, Dave and Dick into the business in the late 1960's and his grandson, Keven, started his employment in 1987. The business grew and expanded, in the mid 60's a manufacturing company called Tork Lift was started. Tork Lift built camper accessories and weight distribution hitches and in 1983 a exhaust shop opened. After Tom retired in 1975, Bob became president of the company and guided the business thru two location moves and two national recessions that hit the RV industry especially hard. Eventually Bob made the decision to scale back from manufacturing and muffler work, to focus on the shops root business, towing equipment. Today, Keven continues the family tradition as the owner and day to day manager of the company. Through out Ballew's seven plus decades in business the one thing we have tried to excel in is customer service. Helping people get set up right the first time for a hitch, tow bar or any towing equipment related need is our main focus and goal.

An important part about figuring out which trailer to get is looking at the the gross trailer weight, or GTW. This is how much the trailer weighs when fully loaded, and is important to make sure you have the right hitch.

If your vehicle is not already equipped with one, you will need an electrical harness to connect your car or truck’s turn signals and taillights to those of the trailer. This is a legal requirement, and not being properly hooked up will keep the trailer off the road.

Be sure to always check the trailer tires before each use. Inspect the tire pressure and the tread wear often and always go by the manufacturers guidelines. Too much or too little of pressure can cause trailer sway.

If you will be using your trailer on unpaved roads or in construction areas, you may want to make sure you have a spare tire. Because trailers are often used in less than perfect conditions, it is easy to pick up a nail, screw, or other item that will leave you flat.
