The ✨ Scheduling Department ✨ connects nearly every team at Press Glass - reinforcing how important teamwork truly is, let's take an in depth look at what they do!
The Scheduling Department is made up of three teams: Order Entry, Optimizations, and Scheduling. All three need a strong understanding of our products and how everything moves through production. They partner with multiple departments to ensure orders are entered, optimized, and planned correctly from start to finish.
Order Entry is where it all kicks off. This team inputs orders based on the customer’s request and getting those details right from the start is key. If something is off, it can cause problems before the first piece of glass is even cut. They stay connected with Project Management, Estimation and Engineering to ensure everything going into the system is complete and accurate.
The Optimizations team wears two hats. First, they arrange glass into the required packaging type and sequence based on customer needs. They coordinate with Transportation and Crate Building to ensure safe loading and efficient use of truck space. Second, they optimize for Cutting to maximize yield from every sheet of glass. They also collaborate with Production, Purchasing, Sales and Engineering to make smart material decisions and adjustments that support our processes.
The Scheduling team creates the daily game plan for each machine. Their mission is to keep production running while balancing customer request dates, material availability and equipment capacity. They rely on a deep understanding of our processes to keep things flowing smoothly and consistently. They work hand in hand with Production, Project Management, All Glass Systems and Transportation to ensure timelines are both realistic and achievable.
