The Alpha Maryland Team enjoyed attending the 31st Annual Maryland Quality Initiative (MdQI) Conference! The theme for this year’s Conference was “Transforming Transportation in Maryland”.
Alpha’s Paul Bender, Area Engineer, proudly accepted the “MdQi” award for “County Engineers Association of Maryland (CEAM) above $5M”. Alpha Corporation supported MCDOT with construction management services with WR&A and OC&L. The CM at-risk team included Corman Kokosing Construction Company and the design team was led by Stantec Consulting Services.
Alpha’s Heidi Van Luven, PE, Vice President, Mid-Atlantic Transportation Engineering, moderated session “ACEC: Effective Legislative Advocacy | Making Sure Your Voice is Heard”. The session highlighted how the transportation industry can effectively advocate for legislation that promotes the interests and needs of our industry and addresses critical issues including transportation safety and mobility. In this session, Baltimore County Councilman and former Delegate Patrick Young, and ACEC’s lobbyist Rory Murray, shared their experiences, effective approaches and lessons learned.
Stephen McVeigh, PMP, Director of Construction Management, facilitated an interactive roundtable discussion with the Partnering Committee called “A Page Out of the Playbook (Highlighting the Partnering Guide)”. Session attendees were given a project ‘problem’ scenario and then worked as a team to discuss a resolution. Stephen’s guidance gave the members a better understanding of how to use the MDQI Partnering Playbook to help resolve issues.
MdQi attendees included Kathleen Linehan, PE, Jason Backover, CCM, Heidi Van Luven, PE, Sara Power, Stephen McVeigh, PMP, and Paul Bender.
