*** Just another reminder to please send Lisa weekly emails updating her on how things are going with your jobseeker(s)! ***

Thank you for doing such a great job on your first week of job fair follow up! It’s been incredible to see our first dozen jobseekers accept employment offers from the fair, and I’m excited to see that number grow as jobseekers continue to interview and receive offers these next few weeks.

As a reminder, please do be sure to check in with your jobseeker regularly throughout this follow up process to help them keep track of interviews, follow up with employers, and fill out any required applications or paperwork. If your jobseeker goes more than a few days without hearing back from any given employer, please let me know so that I can reach out to them. Often that nudge will get the hiring process moving again, or at the very least, get your jobseeker some feedback if the answer is “no.”

Additionally, please ensure as much as possible that jobseekers are closing the loop with employers when they accept job offers, cancelling any outstanding interviews and thanking employers for their time. As I’ve mentioned before, we don’t want these employers to sour on second chance employment, so anything we can do to leave a good taste in their mouth after interacting with our jobseekers goes a long way.

Lastly, please remember to send me weekly updates on the status of your jobseeker’s search. Some of our employers are better than others about keeping me updated, so I rely on you all to provide updates on which employers your jobseeker is communicating with.

Thanks again for helping your jobseekers convert employer interest into jobs! Your assistance really plays a crucial role in how these next few weeks go!

REMINDERS & UPDATES: APRIL 5TH, 2022

Hi all, this is your reminder that there is ONE WEEK LEFT from the registration/video submission deadline! Thank you so much for all that you’ve done so far to help your jobseekers prepare, and all that you will do in the next week. A few other reminders:

If you are having trouble reaching your jobseeker, please let Lisa Cohn know as soon as possible! If they aren’t responding to texts, calls, or voicemails, we can get in touch with the Parole Officer or Case Manager who referred them to ensure they are still interested in the job fair.

This Friday evening, Lisa will send you all the list of employers participating in the job fair. You can then begin reviewing this list with your jobseeker(s) and send Lisa an email listing the ones your jobseeker(s) would like to view their video. Please try to select at least 10 employers if possible! Not all employers will be interested in your jobseeker, so we want to keep their options as open as possible.

We do still have jobseekers without a job coach, so if you have extra capacity or friends who might be interested in signing on last minute, please do let us know!

Welcome to the official page for SLU's Second Chance Job Fair! Beginning this year, we will be using Facebook as a networking tool for our volunteers.

This page will serve as a place where volunteers can bond, where job fair-related questions can be asked and answered, and where impactful stories of jobseekers can be shared. This season's job fair will take place on Tuesday April 19th. We're looking forward to connecting with you all!
