Raise your hand if you've worked at the Northern Victor! π
Did you know? The Northern Victor is Icicle's processing facility in Dutch Harbor. Icicle acquired the Northern Victor in December 1999, which was a floating processor at the time. The "Victor" was moved to its current location in Dutch Harbor on November 9, 2017. The USCG declared it as a permanently moored craft as of December 15, 2017 and it was deleted from the US vessel registry. The Victor now operates as a shore-based processing facility.
History: Originally built in 1945 in Wisconsin as the cargo vessel Marengo for the U.S. war effort, it was released from the U.S. Reserve Fleet and was converted in 1972 to the oil-well drilling ship Ocean Cyclone in Beaumont, Texas. This added 40 feet in length and 20 feet in beam to bring it to present dimensions of 380 feet long and 70 feet wide. After a successful career drilling for oil overseas, the vessel was returned to the United States and converted to a fish processing ship in Panama City, Florida in 1990. At the time, it was one of the largest processing vessels in the U.S. fishing industry, and is still capable of employing a crew of up to 225.
