Happy 250th birthday, America. 🇺🇸

Today I keep coming back to one thing.

Except for Native Americans, every single person in this country came from somewhere else. Doesn't matter if your family got here 300 years ago or 3 years ago. Somebody in your line got on a boat, a plane, or crossed a border, looking for something they couldn't get back home.

We're only about ten generations deep as a country. Ten. That's how young we actually are. And right now, roughly one in four Americans is either an immigrant themselves or the child of one.

So when I hear people act like they've got more of a claim to this country because their family's "been here longer," let that sink in for a second. Nobody's family has really been here that long. Not compared to the people who were already here before any of us showed up.

What makes us American was never about how long you've been here. It's that we keep showing up for each other, generation after generation, looking for the same thing: a shot we didn't have anywhere else.

That's what I'm celebrating today. Not a flag in the ground. The people who carried it here, from everywhere else in the world.

And today, I'm also grateful, truly grateful, for the freedoms so many people before us fought to protect. We can't take that for granted, and we can't stop fighting for them together. Because the reason we have these freedoms at all is because of immigrants. People who came here from everywhere, and came united.

🇺🇸 The freedom to believe in something bigger than yourself, and say so out loud.

🇺🇸 The freedom to go after a life nobody in your family ever got the chance to try.

🇺🇸 The freedom to build a business out of nothing but an idea and stubbornness.

🇺🇸 The freedom to raise your kids on what you actually believe, not what somebody else tells you to.

🇺🇸 The freedom to show up for other people and actually change something for them.

None of those freedoms should ever be taken for granted.
