Today, we pause to honor the brave men and women who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces, and to reflect on their courage, sacrifices, and unwavering commitment to our country.
Happy Veterans Day 2024!

Did you know?
- Veterans Day was originally called Armistice Day, commemorating the end of World War I on November 11, 1918. It became a national holiday in 1954 to honor all U.S. military veterans.

- There are nearly 18 million veterans living in the United States today.

- The longest-serving U.S. president, Franklin D. Roosevelt, served as Assistant Secretary of the Navy during World War I and later led the country through World War II.

- On Veterans Day, the U.S. honors not only military veterans but also their families, who provide unwavering support.

Today and every day, we celebrate the life and work of Dr. King, who was a Baptist minister and prominent leader in the American civil rights movement.

King was born on January 15, 1929. He rose to the fore of the civil rights movement in 1955 with the Montgomery bus boycott that followed the arrest of Rosa Parks, an African American woman who had violated the city’s racial segregation ordinances when she refused to give her seat on a bus to a white passenger. An advocate of Mahatma Gandhi’s philosophy of using nonviolent resistance to effect social change, King promoted the use of nonviolent means to bring an end to racial segregation in the United States. In 1964 he was awarded the Nobel Prize for Peace for his efforts.

We remember Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. not only for what he did, but for what he dreamed. His birthday provides the nation with an opportunity to remember the generation of giants who started the peaceful modern day revolution for civil rights.
