Moore County Dept. of Social Services, Health Dept., & Red Cross are opening an emergency public shelter:

🗓Friday, January 23, 2026
⏲3:00 p.m.
📍Moore County Sports Complex (155 Hillcrest Park Lane, Carthage, NC 28327)

To ensure safety, security, and well-being of all residents, please follow the rules in place for those utilizing the shelter.

General Rules:
- Children under 18 years of age must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian at all times.
- Alcohol, illegal drugs, fi****ms, & weapons of any kind are not permitted inside the shelter.
- Residents should bring personal medications, blankets, special dietary foods or formulas, and a limited supply of non-perishable food for personal use.
- Public shelters are considered shelters of last resort and provide only basic accommodation, including a safe & dry environment, a sleeping cot, and limited meal services.
- This shelter is NOT a Medically Fragile Patient Shelter and cannot accommodate individuals requiring advanced or continuous medical care.

Animals at the Shelter
Residents who arrive with animals are urged to:
- Inform staff immediately upon arrival.
- Bring leashes, carriers, food, medications, & vaccination records (if available).
- Follow all staff instructions to ensure safety, sanitation, & public health
- Accommodations for cats and dogs will be provided within the Animal Services climate-controlled Companion Animal Support Trailer, located on-site or nearby.

Service animals, as defined by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), are permitted within the human shelter. All other animals will be housed in the designated animal support area.

We are seeking Temporary Storm Site Coordinators to support emergency storm response operations. This role serves as GOC’s on-site representative and plays a key role in coordinating safe and efficient fueling operations.
Key Duties Include:
• Arriving on-site early to prepare fueling operations
• Coordinating with site managers and logistics teams
• Supervising drivers and helpers
• Enforcing safety, PPE, and site conduct policies
• Ensuring accurate fuel logging and reporting
🚗 Must be willing to drive their own vehicle to storm sites, which may be 2–4 hours away, and remain on-site as required.
