Winter weather can be unpredictable, and roads may be icy or slippery. Here are 4 tips for driving a truck in wintertime:
β
Slow down: Slow down and maintain a safe speed for the conditions, as it can take much longer to slow down or come to a stop on slippery roads.
β
Increase the following distance: Leave extra space between your truck and the vehicle in front of you. In winter conditions, it can take much longer to stop or slow down, and having more space in front of you can help you avoid accidents.
β
Keep your truck well-maintained: Make sure your truck is in good condition before you hit the road in winter weather. Check your brakes, tires, and windshield wipers regularly, and keep your fuel tank at least half full to avoid fuel line freeze-ups.
β
Be prepared: Carry extra warm clothing, food, and water in your truck in case you get stuck in bad weather. It's also a good idea to have a flashlight, a shovel, and some sand or cat litter to help you get traction if you get stuck in the snow or ice. Stay updated with weather forecasts, and plan your route accordingly to avoid dangerous conditions whenever possible.
