Qualcomm’s Senior Director of Product Engineering, Poornima Lalwaney, spoke on a panel alongside other top technology companies on the topic of “How to Encourage Young Women in Communications Engineering” at this past week’s WICE event in IEEE WCNC 2017. Poornima shared the stories of how Qualcomm has made strides in increasing diversity in the engineering field through programs such as the ThinkaBit Lab, internship and new graduate recruiting, and the many research partnerships Qualcomm has around the world.

In January, Qualcomm hosted their 4th annual Qualcomm Women’s Collegiate Conference (QWCC), aimed at closing the gender gap in technology. 26 universities were represented from across the U.S. In three days, students were exposed to Qualcomm technologies through demos and overviews, as well as working hands on in a day-long hackathon and Dragonboard 410C workshop. Students also toured labs and participated in mock interviews to gain exposure to an industry-like setting. Qualcomm is so excited to see the impact these change-makers will have on the future of technology. Thanks to all QWCC 2017 participants!
