Important Update! If you or someone you know was a stagehand, technician, engineer, or related role (event planner, runner, crafty, etc), and paid as an independent contractor (income reported on 1099's), you likely qualify for the Paycheck Protection Program offered to small businesses with employees.
YOU DON'T NEED TO HAVE EMPLOYEES. IT'S NOT AVAILABLE TO SELF-EMPLOYED CONTRACTORS - INCLUDING LYFT, UBER AND DOORDASH DRIVERS.
There are some other basic qualifications, but I've helped a number of stagehands get approved for forgivable loans. This is free money because you don't have to pay the loan back. You can apply for the PPP through your normal bank, but I found that this company has the simplest, fasted interface and process. Takes about 20 min to apply and you get approved in 24 hours. There are some things you need to need to have, but for the most part, it's just your 2019 or 2020 Form 1040 (one or the other, doesn't have to be both), the schedule C for that year. a bank account and you have to have been paid as a 1099 contractor.
There are only 2 weeks left before the deadline. I'm going to write up a quick step-by-step process for all our contractor friends out there, but if you have questions, feel free to post here or DM us. And share this link with any of your event friends.
