We welcome anyone who'd like to learn more about us and who we are as we go through this difficult time, we'll be hosting open hours at Advantage Services. We urge our elected officials and community leaders to learn about the impact we have had and the folks that these cuts affect.

A Salt Lake City nonprofit that employs people facing barriers to traditional work has furloughed 110 employees as it struggles with a contract reduction and sharply rising insurance costs.

We at Advantage Services are deeply saddened by the passing of Pamela Atkinson, a remarkable person and tireless advocate. For the last 25 years, I have had the privilege of knowing her and witnessing her fierce spirit and unwavering commitment to people who are too often overlooked or marginalized by society. Though small in stature, Pamela was immense in heart, courage, and conviction. She was never afraid to speak the truth to anyone, from governors and community leaders to those who needed to be held accountable. Her faith was central to her life and inspired the important work she carried out in service to others. On behalf of our entire company, we extend our heartfelt condolences and prayers to Pamela’s family, friends, and all those whose lives she touched. Her compassion, strength, and legacy of advocacy will not be forgotten.

As a non-profit we like to share with our communities the impact that our work can have and where your commitments to us are spent. So, we'd like to share a little more about who we are and what we do.

On October 5, 2026 we held a fundraiser to get the word out on our situation out to the world. These partners helped sponsor the event and we can't thank them enough.

It's been a tough year for us but our partners make it easier to navigate this time. Without them a lot of what has been helping us move forward would not have been possible.

Advantage Services will be going through a temporary shutdown. This was not an easy decision but in order for Advantage Services to continue our mission of Independence Through Gainful Employment, we will have to go on furlough from 10/12/2026 to 11/1/2026. This decision does not come lightly as we continue to work on funding resources for our programs that employ homeless, prev incarcerated, and/or mentally/physically disabled individuals.

We invite our community leaders, elected officials, and partners to come visit us and know more about our mission and why it's so important. Thank you for your continued support and feel free to contact [email protected] or [email protected] if you have any questions.

We will also be hosting open houses all this and next week. Cookies from Rubysnap will be provided for our visitors.

Special thank you to the team at Lucero Hair and Wellness for coming out to do a free haircut day for our workers. It takes a strong and loving community for our most vulnerable citizens to receive what we would consider the most basic care. Hair can bring dignity and self love that can be so easily stripped away from us due to circumstance. Thank you again and be sure to give these barbers all the love they are also deserving of.

Our crew is pulling off the double header tonight for the Mutiny Music Collective TapeB concert. Goes to show that anyone can be an awesome community partner helping us achieve Independence through Gainful Employment.
