- SCAM ALERT -

We continue to receive reports of individuals fraudulently posing as Marion County Sheriff’s Deputies in phone scams. Recent reports have mentioned calls about needing to pay fines for missed jury duty. We still hear that people also impersonate actual deputies. Please remember we will never call you to say you have to pay for missing jury duty. Missing jury duty does not result in an arrest warrant.

When in doubt, hang up and call our non-emergency line directly at 503-588-5032.

Please be cautious and know the signs:
- Payment Demands?
MCSO will never ask you to pay a fine over the phone—and we absolutely will not ask for gift cards, Bitcoin, or any other type of electronic payment.
-Weird Meeting Spots?
We do not meet people at gas stations, kiosks, or parking lots to collect payments.
-Strange Phone Numbers?
Scammers can spoof caller ID to show as "Marion County Sheriff’s Office" or even use a real employee's name. If something feels off, hang up and call our non-emergency line directly at 503-588-5032.
- The Reason for the Call?
Common scam excuses include “missed jury duty” or “active warrants.”
Please remember:
Missing jury duty does not result in an arrest warrant.
If you did have a warrant, we wouldn’t call to warn you—we’d show up in person.

You do not need to pay to avoid being arrested.

We will never ask for payment through Bitcoin, gift cards, or other untraceable means.

If you’re ever unsure, trust your instincts—hang up and call us directly.

Congratulations to Deputy Emalee Ell on completing the Field Training and Evaluation Program (FTEP)!

Deputy Ell grew up in Dayton and went to St. Paul High School. When she's not on duty, she enjoys spending time with family and friends, going camping, traveling, and going to rodeos.

From a very young age, Deputy Ell has wanted to serve her community. She has had so many wonderful examples of good-hearted law enforcement officers in her life growing up which led her wanting to do the same. She joined the United States Air Force with the long-term goal of wanting to come home and pursue law enforcement somewhere local to her hometown. With the support of her loving family, Deputy Ell made the decision to join the Marion County Sheriff's Office and says it has been such a blessing to be a part of.

Congratulations, Deputy Ell! We're excited to have you as part of the Marion County Sheriff's Office and look forward to your career serving the residents of Marion County.

Happy Labor Day!

Reminder that our Administrative Offices will be closed today, Sept. 7, and regular hours will resume Tuesday, Sept. 8.

As always, our deputies will still be serving the community 24/7.
