UCP of Northwest Missouri UCP serves children and adults with developmental disabilities We believe belonging to the community in which you live means more than just living there.

CHILDREN'S POGRAM provides a wide range of services to promote the development and learning of children with special needs from birth to age five. Early intervention services focus on all areas of development as children are encouraged to embrace differences and foster strengths within themselves and their peers. ADULT PROGRAM helps individuals with developmental disabilities continue to learn new

skills towards greater independence through a variety of center and community-based activities. It means being involved in the activities and events that interest you and giving back to that community through volunteerism. EMPLOYMENT PROGRAM services are tailored towards each individual's abilities and goals and to find impactful and sustained employment in the workplace setting they choose. We also assist high school students with disabilities as they build plans and strategies for employment and life after graduation.

It is with heavy hearts that we share the unexpected passing of Erick Dale. Erick was a vibrant part of the UCP community who truly brightened every room he entered. He loved being out in the community—whether bowling, giving back through Meals on Wheels, or shopping for UCP essentials—and he approached everything with his signature smile and playful banter. Erick’s warmth, humor, and kindness touched everyone he met, and he will be deeply missed. His memory and the joy he brought to our lives will leave a lasting mark on all of us.

The most common type of cerebral palsy is spastic cerebral palsy. It occurs when the parts of the brain that control voluntary movement — including the motor cortex and related pathways — are damaged during early development.

Spastic CP affects muscle tone, causing muscles to feel stiff or tight. This increased muscle stiffness (called spasticity) can make movement more difficult. Some people may experience muscle tightness in their legs, knees that turn inward, or challenges with balance and coordination.

Every person with CP has a unique combination of strengths and challenges — and with the right supports, individuals with spastic CP can thrive in school, work, and community life.

What an incredible day at the 40th Annual Heart of America Chili Challenge! 🌶️❤️

Thanks to our amazing teams, sponsors, vendors, donors, volunteers, judges, band, and enthusiastic auction bidders, this year’s event was a huge success! Because of YOU, we raised over $140,000 to provide crucial services to children and adults with developmental disabilities in the Greater St. Joseph community.

On the first Sunday in March, our community showed up in a big way — tasting delicious chili, bidding generously at the auction, enjoying great music, and coming together for a wonderful cause.

We are so grateful for your continued support and for making this milestone 40th year one to remember. Here’s to many more years of chili, community, and compassion! ❤️🌶️
