The Housing Action Group from the joint Central Minnesota Community Foundation/Filsan Talent Partners project, “Building Equity Through Action,” just held its second Diversity Homeownership Fair this past Saturday, and it was a huge success. The event brought local organizations and resources together to help more than 200 eager BIPOC community members in the St. Cloud area achieve their dream of homeownership.
Attendees were connected with a number of valuable resources, including an introduction to lenders who offer Halal home financing, knowledgeable realtors, and home inspectors. We also guided multiple families through the pre-approval process, all in the interest of helping people take a big step toward a brighter future for their families.
The Minnesota Legislature recently approved $100 million for down payment assistance to first-generation homebuyers. These funds are currently expected to come online in early 2024. Our Housing Action Group is actively working with the BIPOC community to get access to some of that funding and resources. We’re committed to helping families build equity by owning homes, building wealth, and staying in Central Minnesota.
Some of the families we seek to help are renting two apartments to accommodate their families, and paying $1,800 and more per month in rent. We need to get that money back into the hands of families so they can invest it in their futures. If these families stay in Central Minnesota, they will also invest economically in our region. Their children will also stay and work here.
This Housing Fair wouldn’t be possible without the incredible sponsors/vendors, Central Minnesota Community Foundation, St. Cloud Mortgage, Noble Custom Homes, Bridge Realty, REMAX Results, the Title Team, Costco, Farmers Insurance, RK Home Inspections Co.
