This afternoon we had lunch at Chick-fil-A, it’s one of our son’s favorite restaurants. They have delicious cookies, amazing staff, and “the good ketchup” for his chicken nuggets.
Today while eating our lunch we noticed an adult who was working in the dining room, and much like my son he was a person with a disability.
He checked on tables, collected trays, stayed close with another worker in the dining room area where he helped to assemble catering orders.
He pushed in a chair at an empty table and thought the noise was too loud, so he came over to apologize while we assured him it was no problem at all.
He stopped by to talk to a manager at the table beside us, “you’re doing a great job” she told him. “Everything looks so nice and clean”, she assured him.
Kindness that made me smile.
Moments later another manager stopped him “I’m so happy you’re here to work with us, you’re doing great” she told him.
My husband whispered “hold it together mama”.
But I couldn’t, tears welled up in my eyes.
Hope for individuals like my son to feel valued in the workplace. An opportunity to witness the inclusion we pray for every single day.
Independence and value. Teamwork. A place to belong and shine.
A group of people who included this man as a part of their team, who spoke to him with kindness and reassurance, and a place where he feels important and welcomed. Where he is respected and valued.
Well done Chick-fil-A St. Clairsville, your workplace inclusion and absolutely amazing staff in the St. Clairsville, Ohio location gave this special needs mom the hope she needed today for her eight year old son.
