CIMC, in cooperation with the Karuk Tribe and the Native American Health Center, welcomed over 500 workforce development professionals from throughout the US to Sacramento in early June 2026. The 46th National Indian and Native American Employment and Training Conference was a four-day event with workshops, recognitions, remembrances, guest speakers, and tribal presentations. The conference began with the posting of colors by the Big Sandy Rancheria Veterans of Foreign Wars Color Guard, along with the UC Davis Student Drum Group, followed by greetings from the Conference Co-Chairs. The Honorable Robert H. Smith, Chair of the CIMC Board of Directors and Tribal Chairman of the Pala Band of Mission Indians, also welcomed everyone. The Red Lightning Woman Power Singers from the Bay Area and the K'iwinya'n-ya:n Singers helped welcome attendees to California. Each day started with blessings from California tribal community members, including Chris Devers (Pauma Band of Mission Indians), Tracy Tripp (Ione Band of Miwok Indians), and Joshua Hoaglen (Round Valley Indian Tribes).

Attendees also had chances to explore the area, with outings to Old Sacramento, San Francisco, a baseball game, and a local casino.

CIMC appreciates the support from the California tribal community, which provided sponsorships for this event: California Tribal Business Alliance, Pala Band of Mission Indians, Southern California Tribal Chairmen's Association, and the Barona Band of Mission Indians.

CIMC also extends a sincere "Thank You" to committee members, staff, and volunteers who helped make this event truly memorable and successful.

This week, the CIMC Elders Program provided training to 28 caregivers, as part of the CIMC National Family Caregiver Support Program. This 4-day training was held at the Corque Hotel in Solvang, CA. CIMC Vice Chair Stacy Dixon attended to present training certificates.

Last week, nine CIMC Workforce Development Program team members became certified instructors in the Workin' with Tradition Soft Skills Workforce Success Program curriculum. The program, presented by Dr. Steve Parese (author), is designed to help individuals prepare for employment on and off the reservation.

More than 40 individuals attended the Wellness & Healing Gathering at the Rincon Reservation in Valley Center, CA, held mid-March 2026. The gathering was hosted by the CIMC Elders Program in partnership with the Native Wellness Institute.

CIMC sends our sincere condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Morris Reid. He served diligently as a member of CIMC's Board of Directors from 1999-2000 and 2007-2009. He also served as a CIMC Delegate for many years and was a valued member of the CIMC family.

Yesterday, CIMC Executive Director Lorenda T. Sanchez and Torres Martinez Desert Cahuilla Indians Vice-Chair RoseMarie Morreo participated in the groundbreaking ceremony for the planned Tiny Homes Village in Thermal, CA. CIMC is administering the construction project on behalf of the Torres Martinez Desert Cahuilla Indians, in collaboration with design-builder Thunderbird Electric LLC.

Last week, Reverend Dwight Ford, President/CEO of Project NOW, Inc. was honored as an Outstanding Employer at the 45th National Indian and Native American Employment and Training Conference, held in Providence, Rhode Island. Project NOW, located in Rock Island, Illinois, was nominated by the CIMC Chicago Based Operations. CIMC Executive Director Lorenda T. Sanchez, and Workforce Development Coordinators III, Gabrielle Mills (Fresno Field Office) and Kelli Cosman (Ukiah Field Office) attended the ceremony held at the Omni Providence, on December 9, 2025.

It was perfect weather today for community engagement by CIMC at the Wilton Rancheria's 11th Annual Native American Breast Cancer Awareness Walk/Run event in Elk Grove, CA. The CIMC Condors, a team of over 80 members, joined in a vibrant celebration of food, music, and survivor recognition.
