Earlier this month, the CIMC Condor Education Advisory Committee, together with Grade Results and Tribal Solutions Group, brought the community together in Lakeport, CA. Held at the Big Valley Rancheria Gymnasium, the event featured a youth basketball tournament and a flavorful “Down the Bayou” meal. The main purpose of the gathering was a call to action: parents of students in grades 8-11 were invited to sign a petition supporting the creation of the Condor Charter School in Lake County. Thanks to the dedication of committee members, staff, and volunteers, the event was a great success.

This past weekend, the All Tribes Broadband Academy Mobile Broadband Training Unit traveled from Southern California to the Robinson Rancheria and the Big Valley Rancheria in Lake County. Adam Geisler and Ronald Peck from American Indian Media Concepts, Inc. shared details about the All Tribes American Indian Charter School's Broadband Academy with the CIMC Condor Education Advisory Committee. The Academy, based at the Rincon Indian Reservation, started in 2025 with funding from the CIMC Child Care and Development Block Grant Program.

The Academy is making a difference by opening up new opportunities for Native youth and families. By June 2026, 20 instructors have been trained and certified, the first group of students has launched, and high school seniors are now serving as peer mentors and role models for younger students. This connects the program’s investment to real training and leadership results.

The training programs run as 160-hour courses over 3 to 5 weeks, with groups of 10 to 20 participants. Students learn in the classroom and receive hands-on technical experience through broadband projects such as fiber installation and network setup. This helps prepare them for jobs and supports workforce readiness.

The programs are designed to match workforce funding, project schedules, and local job opportunities. Training is offered at fixed locations and through mobile units, making it easier for people in isolated or hard-to-reach areas to access training and find jobs.

CIMC, in cooperation with the Karuk Tribe and the Native American Health Center, welcomed over 500 workforce development professionals from throughout the US to Sacramento in early June 2026. The 46th National Indian and Native American Employment and Training Conference was a four-day event with workshops, recognitions, remembrances, guest speakers, and tribal presentations. The conference began with the posting of colors by the Big Sandy Rancheria Veterans of Foreign Wars Color Guard, along with the UC Davis Student Drum Group, followed by greetings from the Conference Co-Chairs. The Honorable Robert H. Smith, Chair of the CIMC Board of Directors and Tribal Chairman of the Pala Band of Mission Indians, also welcomed everyone. The Red Lightning Woman Power Singers from the Bay Area and the K'iwinya'n-ya:n Singers helped welcome attendees to California. Each day started with blessings from California tribal community members, including Chris Devers (Pauma Band of Mission Indians), Tracy Tripp (Ione Band of Miwok Indians), and Joshua Hoaglen (Round Valley Indian Tribes).

Attendees also had chances to explore the area, with outings to Old Sacramento, San Francisco, a baseball game, and a local casino.

CIMC appreciates the support from the California tribal community, which provided sponsorships for this event: California Tribal Business Alliance, Pala Band of Mission Indians, Southern California Tribal Chairmen's Association, and the Barona Band of Mission Indians.

This week, the CIMC Elders Program provided training to 28 caregivers, as part of the CIMC National Family Caregiver Support Program. This 4-day training was held at the Corque Hotel in Solvang, CA. CIMC Vice Chair Stacy Dixon attended to present training certificates.

Last week, nine CIMC Workforce Development Program team members became certified instructors in the Workin' with Tradition Soft Skills Workforce Success Program curriculum. The program, presented by Dr. Steve Parese (author), is designed to help individuals prepare for employment on and off the reservation.
