On Wednesday, FFA members went to different farmers around the Royalton Area to deliver cinnamon rolls. We have made this a tradition to give our farmers a “thank you” for their hard work and dedication to feeding us! Also thank you to Ms. Liddane’s food classes for making the cinnamon rolls.

We recently held our monthly chapter meeting. We talked about the fruit sales, the upcoming CDEs, and our annual Rolling into Harvest event. The meeting was followed by some fun pumpkin carving.
Thank you to Triple S Pumpkins for the pumpkins! Each member should have grabbed a fruit sale sheet which they can have filled out by anyone who wants to enjoy good fruit or some nice meat sticks. If you are a member and did not receive a sheet, please go to Goldade's room to pick one up! If you are a farmer and would like to have a delivery made to your home on Wednesday, October 14, please contact us! Good luck to our CDE teams that are participating tomorrow!

Although it has been a minute, Fall Rally is still on our minds. Many young members went to CLC staples and learned about FFA and what it has to offer. We also sent 2 teams to compete in their CDEs.
Overall Placings:
Meats: Team- 7th overall
Soils- Team: 2nd overall, Individual: Keaton Nelson - 2nd, Landon Hackett - 4th, Ethan Vannurden - 5th

Royalton FFA sent three teams to compete at the University of Minnesota Invitational!

Poultry: Benjamin Neutz left, Gabriel Neu middle, Charlie Barthel right.
When we were at the University of Minnesota, we competed in a Poultry Evaluation competition. While we were there, we got to grade turkey carcasses and chicken carcasses from highest quality to least desirable, and we graded interior and exterior eggs. The biggest takeaway for Gabe was “getting an opportunity to go to U of M and study chickens”. Therefore, the poultry team had a good time there. Charlie says, “I am happy I got to participate in the poultry competition at the U of M.

Dairy Evaluation
Audrey Czech competed at the university of Minnesota invite for Dairy Evaluation Audrey placed 95th out of 168 overall. She placed 6 classes of dairy cows and took a 40 question written exam on the dairy industry. She is happy with her placing and is excited to learn more about it!

Livestock Evaluation
Mallory, Emma Ray, and Payton Voge went to the U of M for a practice competition for livestock judging and judged swine, sheep, and beef. Mallory got 28 out of 288 Payton got 134 Emma Ray got 148 all out of 288 people.

Yesterday, we finished our annual officer retreat! The officers, along with the leadership committee, worked together to set goals and work out events for the upcoming year. We discussed some new ideas and activities for meetings, members and events. While most of the time was spent working, we also played fun games and had a lot of time getting more comfortable and bonding.

Meat Science class broke down a pork loin into retail cuts 🐖

This is our inaugural semester of this skills based class. Ms. Liddane is on a committee within Minnesota Association of Agricultural Educators where members developed a state wide high school meat cutting curriculum which we got to pilot this semester!

Units include:
Safety and Sanitation
PPE and Equiptment
Carcass, Yield and Quality grading
Careers
Packaging
Processing
Cooking methods

Thank you to Grand Champion Meats and Thielen Meats for supporting our new meats program through tours, experiences and materials.

Also thank you CLC Meats Program for training our FFA Meat Eval and Technology Team.

We are looking forward to the future of this program as meat processors and butchers are a high need in our region.

The Royalton FFA Plant Sale start today! Come by the greenhouse to get your mother’s day hanging basket or porch pot! And all your vegetable starts!

Where: North side of the Royalton football field.
When: Friday 5/8 and 5/15 from 3-5 pm. Saturday 5/9 and 5/16 from 10-2. Sunday 5/10 from 10-2.
