More great partnerships on display today as KRDA joined the Heart of Kentucky Realtors (HKAR) Leadership Program for a visit to Fort Knox. The group met with Garrison Leadership and tried their hand at firing a rifle in the Engagement Skills Trainer. They also paid a visit to the Digital Air Ground Integration Range (DAGIR), learned about its capabilities and strategic importance and saw first-hand just how close it is to development most especially on the installation’s eastern boundary.

Area realtors are in many ways our local ambassadors, often serving as a military family’s first connection to the community. Their desire to learn and have a strong understanding of Fort Knox missions, capabilities and the needs of military families is invaluable. We appreciate our partnership with HKAR and the support of Fort Knox to make this annual visit possible.

The KRDA Board of Directors had the rare opportunity to visit Fort Knox’s Digital Air Ground Integration Range (DAGIR) — the only range of its kind east of the Mississippi River. The range provides an environment where air and ground forces can train simultaneously, a capability that enhances our nation’s military readiness and strengthens the strategic value of Fort Knox.

KRDA has worked closely with the installation to build community awareness of the range and, in partnership with the Lincoln Trail Area Development District, continues to educate and encourage compatible land use near the installation. From the range tower, board members observed its close proximity to ongoing development in Bullitt and Hardin Counties.

The DAGIR visit coincided with KRDA’s board meeting in Bullitt County, held at the Active Heroes Retreat Center. This 147-acre sanctuary provides a place of respite, healing and support for service members, veterans and their families. It’s another example of the incredibly supportive community we have here in the Greater Fort Knox Region.

It was a privilege to attend U. S. Army Recruiting Command’s change of responsibility ceremony between Command Sergeant Major Shade Munday and Command Sergeant Major Joseph Wilson.
We wish CSM Munday and his family all the best and extend a warm welcome to CSM Wilson and his family.

Both the Sergeant Major of the Army Weimer and Command Sergeant Major Raymond Harris from U.S. Army Transformation and Training Command were on hand for the ceremony. CSM Harris previously served as the Command Sergeant Major of V Corps here at Fort Knox. It’s always great when senior leaders and friends come back for a visit.

We also enjoyed introducing Meade County Chamber of Commerce executive director Lisha Duke more to Fort Knox.

Join us in welcoming nearly 8,000 visitors to the Greater Fort Knox Region for the 2026 U.S. Army Cadet Command JROTC National Raider Challenge April 16-19!

Originally scheduled for November 2025, the event was cancelled due to the government shutdown and rescheduled for this spring, allowing high school students from the 2025-2026 academic year the opportunity to showcase their talents.

Approximately 4,000 JROTC cadets from across the country will converge on Fort Knox to compete in high-intensity physical and team-based events to earn the title of Raider National Champion.

Another estimated 3,000 to 4,000 support staff, JROTC staff, and family members visit the region to support cadets during the multi-day competition. Please make them feel welcome as they visit the Greater Fort Knox Region.

Following the luncheon we hosted in Senator McConnell’s honor yesterday, he joined KRDA President/ CEO Col. (Ret) Lance O’Bryan and Elizabethtown Airport Board Chairman Carl Swope to talk to the media. Here is the story in today’s The News-Enterprise

A longest-serving U.S. senator in Kentucky history was recognized Thursday at Fort Knox for his lasting impact on the military installation and its surrounding community.

Today, the KRDA Board had the privilege of hosting U.S. Senator Mitch McConnell at a luncheon in his honor at the General George Patton Museum of Leadership on Fort Knox.

We thanked him for his tremendous contributions to Fort Knox, military readiness and our regional economy.

Senator McConnell has championed more than $570 million in investments on the installation during his time in the Senate. These investments contribute to the readiness and lethality of our Army, while also supporting the welfare of Soldiers and their families.

As a token of our appreciation, KRDA President/CEO Col (Ret) Lance O’Bryan presented Senator McConnell with the Sounds of Freedom Award, symbolizing all he has done to keep our nation safe and Fort Knox strong. The award—emblazoned with the insignias of Fort Knox units—also included an artillery shell inscribed with the dates of his service to our nation.

As always, he shared his insights on current affairs and passed on a few history lessons too.

Thank you for being Fort Knox’s greatest champion, Senator McConnell!

It was great to have Brigadier General Adam Smith as our guest speaker at today’s Lunch with a Fort Knox Leader. BG Smith is the 64th Adjutant General of the Army (TAG). The Adjutant General Directorate (TAGD) of U.S. Army Human Resources Command provides a vast array of personnel support and services to the 1.1 million Soldiers in the Army (Active, Guard and Reserve).

Smith praised the 547 members of TAG workforce, military and civilian employees most of whom are at Fort Knox providing dedicated service to Soldiers, their families and our nation’s veterans.

It’s always amazing to learn about the various missions at Fort Knox and the impact they have across the Army. Thanks to everyone who joined us and thank you to BG Smith for taking time out of his schedule to speak to us.
