With around the corner (tomorrow, 10.21.2026), it’s the perfect moment to shake up your ELA curriculum. Writing isn't just about grammar; it’s about rhetoric—the art of effective and persuasive communication.

If you are looking for a high-impact lesson plan this week, try anchoring it around the rhetorical triangle:
1️⃣ Ethos (Credibility): Have students write a short bio or argument from the perspective of an expert.
2️⃣ Pathos (Emotion): Challenge them to write a flash-fiction piece or a letter meant to evoke a specific emotion (joy, urgency, empathy).
3️⃣ Logos (Logic): Ask them to pitch a school rule change backed entirely by data and reasoning.

By making writing accessible and purposeful, we show students that rhetoric isn't just an ancient Greek concept—it's a modern superpower.

What do you do when your students finish their lesson early? Keep them engaged, learning, and having fun with these 3 easy activities! 👇

🧠 1. Brain Teasers & Critical Thinking Keep those minds working with riddles, word searches, logic puzzles, and fun challenges that encourage problem-solving!

✍️ 2. Creative Writing & Drawing Let students use their imaginations! Have them write a short story, draw their dream classroom, or answer a fun writing prompt like, “If I could invent anything, it would be…”

🎯 3. Educational Games & Trivia Make learning fun with classroom trivia, vocabulary challenges, or quick games like naming as many animals as possible that start with the letter B!

Alpena Public Schools is looking for school substitutes to cover for CLASSROOM AIDES, FOOD SERVICE, CUSTODIAL STAFF, and TEACHERS.
