Yay! You've accepted your first subbing job, but now you're not sure what to wear.
Keep it simple, respectful, and professional. And remember, you will be on your feet and moving around most of the day, so comfort is key (just not too comfortable!)
Dressing in layers is also a good idea. You never know if the classroom will be a sweltering sauna🥵 or an ice-cold igloo🥶. Best to be prepared!

Thomas was nominated by staff at Ella White Elementary in Alpena who said, “At our school we have a high trauma demographic and also a high low-income demographic. Our students need teachers with patience, understanding, kindness but also high expectations.

"Mr. T," as he is affectionately known by our students embodies all of these
characteristics. Students celebrate when they find out he will be their sub! He has built great relationships with our students and we appreciate him for that.

He is always calm and even-keeled which helps when we need to have him with our most difficult classrooms. He has a great attitude.

This year when we lost our building float, he stepped up to the plate and agreed to sub it until we could find a replacement. That time period would have been really rough without his presence and his help.”

Ken was nominated by staff at Besser Elementary School in Alpena, prior to his passing in early May. Mr. Schroeder will be dearly missed by staff and students!

His nominator had this to say about him: “Ken is 85 years old and still loves coming to our school to sub any time he is able! Over the years, he has served in several capacities in education, ranging from support staff to principal, and he is still smiling and desiring to make a difference wherever he goes.
One thing that makes him stand out is that he wears a different tie almost every day! The staff and students are always curious what his selection of the day will be. We appreciate him so much that we had a tie made for him with our school logo on it and he wears it proudly.
The next thing is that he always has a good attitude, speaks about students positively, and is willing to come in and help even on his days off.
Lastly, he is always thinking of others and will often bring with him fresh baked banana bread to share with the staff. He goes above and beyond to build into our school culture, care for students, shine positive energy, and all at the age of 85! He is a true hero in our community!“
