New principal named for Hendersonville High School
Dr. Del Phillips, Sumner County Director of Schools, and incoming Director of Schools, Dr. Scott Langford are pleased to announce that Dr. Mel Sawyers will be the next principal of Hendersonville High School.
Dr. Sawyers most recently served as the principal of Guild Elementary for the past six years. Dr. Sawyers previously served as an assistant principal at Hendersonville High School for five years and the principal of Millersville Elementary. Dr. Sawyers is replacing Bob Cotter, who retired at the end of the past school year.

I look forward to partnering with the faculty, staff, students, and community to continue the tradition of success in every aspect at Hendersonville High School.โ
Dr. Langford said he was pleased to name Dr. Sawyers, who is a Sumner County native, to be the next principal of HHS.
โDr. Sawyers represents the best of our educators and administrators who grew up and were trained here in Sumner County,โ Dr. Langford said. โDr. Sawyers is part of the tradition of academic excellence we have built in Sumner County, and he is going to be a big part of ensuring it continues as he works to develop Sumner Countyโs next leaders at Hendersonville High School.โ
