AI is a powerful drafting assistant. It is not a procedure authority.

That was the message our Founder and Chairman, Steve McCord, brought to the LNG Innovation & Workforce Stage at the 2026 Americas LNG Summit in Lake Charles.

In his session, “The Illusion of Competence: Why AI-Generated Procedures Pass the Visual Test but Fail the Human Performance Test,” Steve put two AI-written versions of the same tagout procedure side by side and walked the room through what a trained writer would catch before either one reached the field.

Three takeaways:
1. Generating is not validating. A procedure can look clean, structured, and confident and still fail the person using it.
2. Some failure modes are beyond AI’s reach, from cognitive load calibration to decision point clarity, conditional logic, and the placement of warnings.
3. Duty of Care does not transfer to the tool. The professional who signs off on a procedure is accountable for its fitness for use, not the software that drafted it.

AI can draft a procedure that looks finished. It cannot validate one.

This afternoon at 4:00 PM, our founder Steve McCord takes the LNG Innovation & Workforce Stage alongside Drake LeBlanc of HASC for "Workforce development, competency & training." With new trains coming online across the Gulf Coast, the industry is about to put a lot of new people in front of a lot of new procedures. Steve will talk about what it takes to make sure they are ready on day one.
