Heather Smith, Jamie Hendrie, Tyler Boice, and Adam Miller are spending the day giving back through clean-up work at the Mother Cabrini Shrine in Peru. As participants in the Advocacy and Resource Center’s Workforce Network Community Prevocational (CPV) program, they are building valuable workplace skills, learning teamwork, and gaining hands-on experience in community settings.

The CPV program helps eligible individuals prepare for competitive employment and meaningful community participation.

For National Disability Employment Awareness Month, we're highlighting another story from a person we support and sharing their experience with employment.

Greg Lemos is pursuing certification as an Aging-in-Place Specialist through the National Association of Home Builders and serves as an Independent Living Skills Mentor. These complementary roles uniquely position him to help individuals create safe, accessible, and independent living environments.

Greg is an experienced construction and design professional with more than 20 years of experience managing residential and commercial projects. In addition to his professional expertise, he brings valuable personal insight to his work. Following a life-changing accident that resulted in a spinal injury, Greg became a full-time user of a motorized wheelchair. Despite this challenge, he continues to live independently, drive, and maintain an active lifestyle.

Drawing on both his professional background and lived experience, Greg has successfully designed and modified his own home to fully support his accessibility needs. He understands firsthand the importance of creating spaces that promote safety, independence, and quality of life. His goal is to help others overcome barriers and achieve greater independence through thoughtful home design and accessibility solutions.

-ed in his professional development by the North Country Center for Independence, ARC's Workforce Network, and the New York State Education Department, Office of Adult Career and Continuing Education Services - Vocational Rehabilitation (ACCES-VR). Through these partnerships, he is expanding his skills and credentials to better serve individuals seeking accessible housing and independent living solutions.

Our first spotlight is on Noah Eldredge!

Noah graduated from Beekmantown Central School in June 2026. He began participating in ARC's Work Experience Program at the United Way of the Adirondack Region, Inc. on August 24, 2026. Currently, he works one day per week to gain valuable job skills and experience while assisting the organization with its annual fundraising campaign.

When he is not working at the United Way, Noah attends SUNY Plattsburgh as a full-time student majoring in Computer Science.

Noah appreciates the flexibility of ARC's Work Experience Program and says he enjoys his time at the United Way very much. This opportunity has allowed him to build workplace skills, contribute to his community, and balance employment with his college studies.

Thank you to the North Country Mustang Club!!

A big thank you to the North Country Mustang Club for stopping by today to present ARC with a $500 donation!

The donation came from the car show they hosted back in August. We appreciate the club’s continued commitment to ARC and their generosity toward the people we support!
