As the economy falters, how secure is your job?
For most people, job seeking is a reactive process – they wait until they must get a new job before they start the process of finding one.
Those who wait to plot their next career move until they reach a maximum level of job search stress suffer significantly more than those who are proactive. I’m reminded of the book by business guru Harvey Mackay, “Dig your well before you’re thirsty.”
Invest time in your career ahead of your next job replacement curve. You’ll have a better shot at earning the attention of those who are hiring for the job of your dreams when (or if) the time comes.
Indeed.com recently published an article that supports this approach. “The best way to establish your next career move is to think about what you want to accomplish in the short- and long-term. Consider what sort of life you want to lead, both personally and professionally, in the next five, 10, and 15 years. Think about what changes you'll need to make in your career to create that life for yourself.”
Ponder that last sentence for a moment. “Think about what changes you’ll need to make…” Not only will you need to make changes that better align with the life and career you desire, I assert you’ll also need to make decisions NOW to take charge of your career.
And that’s precisely why I developed this resource that I’m excited to share with you today. I spoke to a former client last Thursday who told me he’s still using what he learned from me in 2010 to navigate his career today. In fact, he’s using it to interview for a promotion as we speak.
Do what Dean did. Take charge of your career.
