Each flag represents 1,000 lives lost. Together, they stand in remembrance of the brave men and women honored by the National Iraq-Afghanistan Memorial – Remembering Our Fallen — a photographic war memorial recognizing more than 5,000 service members who gave their lives during the Global War on Terror (9/11/2001 – 8/30/2021).

This memorial also honors those lost in training accidents, both stateside and overseas, as well as those who served in combat zones and later succumbed to PTS. Their sacrifice, service, and stories will never be forgotten.

Its legacy is simple but powerful: to ensure these heroes are remembered, their names are spoken, and the grief carried by their families is never borne alone.
