🌊 Travel Tip Tuesday: Split Rock Lighthouse – Two Harbors, MN 🌊

I've visited Minnesota's North Shore several times, and no matter how many times I go, Split Rock Lighthouse never gets old.

There is something special about standing on the rocky shoreline, listening to Lake Superior crash against the rocks, and looking up at this historic lighthouse perched high on the cliff. It's one of those places that makes you stop, take a deep breath, and simply appreciate the beauty around you.

What many people don't realize is that Split Rock Lighthouse was built because of tragedy. In November 1905, a massive storm—known as the Mataafa Storm—swept across Lake Superior, damaging or destroying nearly 30 ships and claiming dozens of lives. In response, Congress authorized the construction of Split Rock Lighthouse, and the beacon first shined in 1910 to help guide ships safely through these often-treacherous waters. For nearly 60 years, it served as a vital navigational aid for sailors on Lake Superior.

Today, visitors can tour the lighthouse and keeper's quarters, hike scenic trails, and take in some of the most breathtaking views anywhere on the North Shore. The sunsets alone are worth the trip.

Some places leave a lasting impression long after you've left.

For me, Split Rock Lighthouse is definitely one of those places. ❤️
