The Rebekah Bishop Prescott Memorial Scholarship is awarded annually at the Okeechobee High School Scholarship night to graduating seniors interested in Agriculture or Education. Within that time the scholarship has given out $14,000 to 26 graduating seniors. This scholarship is awarded to current FFA or 4-H members with a focus on helping students interested in pursuing careers in agriculture or
education. This scholarship is a memorial for the late Rebekah Bishop Prescott, who lost her battle with cancer in 2017. Rebekah inspired those around her with her depth of passion for the youth and agricultural heritage of Okeechobee. Rebekah came up in the agriculture community, with her family owning P W Bishop Dairy. Rebekah suffered through cancer twice as a child but, when healthy enough, she competed in the OYLS youth livestock show as an exhibitor. After graduating high school, she continued participating as an avid volunteer. In addition to her passion for continuing the family dairy business, Rebekah also aspired to become a teacher here in Okeechobee. She was only a few courses shy of graduating with her education degree at IRSC. When Rebekah knew that she would not win her third fight with cancer she asked that her passion for agriculture and education be continued through this scholarship. We are honored to be able to give back to the community in Rebekah’s memory and consistently in awe of the communities’ generosity.
