Drill Team History: It All started at miami jackson senior high school that area was a suburban area with many drill teams, wheather it was a school activity or an inter-city organization drill teams were large and in charge.(Our Very Own Mr. Then in the school year of 2001-2002 the NMB band director Mr. Mustafa decided to form a drill team, he accomplished this task by asking several guys that he
witnessed dancing at the football games in the stands. Impressed with their attitude, enthusiasum, and passion towards dancing, he was determined to form a drill team with these boys as members, Russell Jacques, Pierre David, Charles Nesbett, Calvit Hodge and Desmond Beaumount were only some of the first members of the NMB drill team. Since then NMB has been fortunate enough to be one of the few schools to have a drill team. As a result sparked a drill team rivialry between NMB Drill Team And Miami Jackson's Drill Team. The NMB band along with the drill team even went on to be in Lil Romeo's Music Video "2 Way". Then in 2004-2005 it was decided amoungst themselves that they were going to be called the heartbreakers after performing at an open mic hosted by the drama club. Later in that year for the first time ever in drill team history the doors would be open to girls that would like to join. This went on from 2004-2006, 2006 was the year of the last drill team. Some of the members of 2006 were seniors about to graduate and after many failed recruiting attemps it was very difficult to get a team togeather for that following year 2007. During the Spring Concert of 2006 roses were passed out to symbolize the ending of a legacy, the drill team legacy that is. And so just like that by 2006-2007 nmb's drill team was no more. At the spring concert of 2007 alumni s came back to perform for the crowd, thet were known as the all stars an elite group composed of drill team alumnis from various years. Since then from 2007-2008 there was a small group that worked to bring back and revive a flame that got extingushed. Untill finally in 2008-2009 it was agreed upon facaluty members, teachers and the activites director Ms.Gerriuer that the drill team my be brought back for just that school YEAR! At this time many of the students that worked to revive the drill team became seniors, found other activites, graduated or/and lost interest. But many question arrose for example "who would sponsar this?", "who would be on it?", "How would they get members?" etc. At first Ms.Thompson was asked to sponsar this drill team and she was even willing, but unfortunatly it was decided that she couldn't due to the fact that she was the sponsar of the Flagettes and Majorettes so it was not right for her to take up another disorganization Ms. Johnson was also asked to be the sponsar, but turned down for the same reason, but only Ms. J was in charge of the cheerleaders and dancers. So just like that Ms. Parris offered to take up the drill team and become the sponsar. This was very possible on account of Ms. P only being in charge of the step team. As far as members were concerned the drill team alumnis came to NMB and decided to seek out Charles Sanders to find members to join the new drill team in time to perform at the 2008-2009 Homecoming Pep-Rally. The performers of that pep-rally was Dorlance Defonse, Wadner Joseph, Charles Sanders, Zackary Sunders and Jeff Pierre the first to perform as the new drill team. That following Monday a tryout was called everyone was subject to a tryout even the ones who performed. November 20, 2008 was the big day tryouts! it was announced on the following Tuesday the members who made the cut.(because monday was no school) Which were Stanley Beaubrun, Lamar Kendricks, Karrem Copeland, Charles Sanders, Mario, Anthony Theodore, Jeff Pierre, Dorlance Defonse and Wadner Joseph went on to be the first members of the new an improved revived drill team squad of 2008-2009. After tryout the team discussed if they should be affiliated with the band and perform with the charger band just as the drill team ancestors did, eventually the answer was yes. so the team worked with each other under the guidence of alumnis to perform at thier first parade The MLK Parade of 2009. By the time of the MLK parade only four members were able to perform which took place Monday, January 19, 2009. As for the others they were suffering the consequnces of not purchasing the uniform or not coming to practice. Febuary 2009 some of the members got undedicated and began to slack off accept for a few, then slow people ended up leaving the team, to fix this a tryout was held to gain more members, at the end 3 more members were recruited to perform at spring concert 2009.
