Looking to earn your NASRO Basic SRO Certification or know an officer who is new to the SRO role?

The National Association of School Resource Officers (NASRO) will be hosting a 40-hour Basic SRO Course at the Carol Stream Police Department from July 20-24, 2026. This nationally recognized course is considered the gold standard for School Resource Officer training and covers the NASRO Triad concept, adolescent development, de-escalation, school safety, threat assessment, mentoring, and more.

Today we want to give a heartfelt, thank you to our SRO, Officer Nick! He is much more than a badge—he is a mentor, listener, a role model, and a calm presence in the building. He builds relationships with students, support staff and helps ensure that Stevenson remains a safe and welcoming place for all. We’re grateful for the partnership, the care, and the commitment to our Tigers every single day.

Today, the Illinois School Resource Officers Association mourns the loss of Lee County Mississippi Deputy Rick Haggard, a School Resource Officer, who was killed in the line of duty.

Deputy Haggard was directing traffic shortly after 3 p.m. as school was dismissing when he was struck by a vehicle. This tragedy is a heartbreaking reminder of the risks officers face while protecting their communities and schools.

Our hearts are broken for his family, friends, and fellow deputies. We extend our deepest condolences and prayers for comfort and strength during this unimaginable time. We are also holding the employees and students of Shannon Elementary School in our thoughts as they grieve this tremendous loss.

Deputy Haggard’s service and sacrifice will never be forgotten.
