When I went to Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island in September 2013. Then Staff Sergeant Brown was my drill instructor at Platoon 2102 Golf Company. By October 2013, I was told I’d be medically dropped to Medical Rehab Platoon to help heal my stress fracture.

If anyone knows. Being dropped in training while in recruit training is probably the worse news you’ll ever hear. It feels like your dreams and aspirations were crushed then and there.

As I cried waiting for orders from the Senior Drill Instructor. Then SSgt Brown looks at me and said to me “it’s not over, look at me! I made it, you can make it too”. That sentence brought my determination back and saw it thru

12 years later. I see him get promoted to Sergeant Major. This is how it all comes full circle. I’m glad to see him attain this rank. He deserves it and I know the Marine Corps is in good hands.

Coming back to the Engineering field has been a roller coaster. It’s great to be with Marines who want to be here. Renewing certifications and also relearning the job has been a grind.

One thing I do appreciate is that being surrounded by Marines who are experts in their craft is an elite mentality that I need to meet.

Remember it’s all on you but it’s not about you.

Today is Saint Patrick’s day and he is honored by engineers across the Marine Corps. He is our patron from constructing buildings to destroying obstacles. He is the Patron Saint of the Castle that we beloved so much.

If you know a Combat Engineer, give them a toast and wish them a Happy Birthday! As they will live today and celebrate it like there is no tomorrow 🏰🏰🏰

It’s been awhile since I’ve done any posting. My time as a Career Counselor/Recruiter has ended. For the Families, Poolees and those who became Marines, I thank you for trusting me into taking on the challenge of becoming a Marine. The long nights and early days was worth it when it you all accept that challenge.

For the Marines I worked with and are still going after it. Continue the mission. Your work is literally the Marine Corps Mission.

For those that couldn’t make it due to the waiver process. Know that there is something out there that can help achieve the better version of you. Never quit this thing we call life.

For those that have quit. Thank you for teaching me the lesson that human nature is to always take the path of least resistance. That’s why no one will ever remember your name or lineage.

This page will now just be focus on my professional career in the Marine Corps. I’m back to doing what I love doing. COMBAT ENGINEER 🏰🏰🏰

The Marine Corps Weapon of choice for suppression and fire superiority is the M240 Medium Machine Gun. Firing the weapon is a glory in itself.

Primarily a weapon used by Machine Gunners (0331) it can be seen to be used by Marine Corps units across the organization.

You really won’t know freedom until you fire it on a cyclic rate.

One lesson I’ve always took in my life as a Marine and Combat Engineer is that planning is vital to any success. If you don’t plan to succeed you are sure to fail but you also don’t need to plan to perfection as the opportunity can slip by you.

If I can rewind time, I would 100% apply this earlier on my life.

Plan to succeed. Map out your goals and dreams. Find out how you can get there faster, effectively and efficiently.

A time I like to reminisce is the humanitarian deployments I’ve been in. It was at this moment that I realized how everything came full circle for me.

Born in the Philippines
Immigrated to the United States
Joined the United States Marine Corps
Came back to the Philippines to help build a school for kids

I will always be grateful for the experience that the Marines provided for me.

I will always remember what I was told: the United States Marine Corps is an organization that fights and protects.

Esprit de Corps is a core part of our Marine Corps. It is even truer for the Northwest Marines. These future Marines puts out their heart every Saturday morning at 0800, ready to put out physically and mentally whatever is in store for that days workout.

We are proud of their dedication and as we celebrate tomorrow Marine Corps’ 249th Birthday, we will remember that our future is in great hands.

Today was a win for Officer Selection Team New Brunswick and Recruiting Sub Station Northwest.

Candidate Bovair did her oath of commissioning towards the United States Marine Corps as an Officer. She is currently attending Kean University earning her degree in Law.

We met her during a college fair at Lenape Valley High School and that initial conversation transformed into a mentorship and determination to ensure she has what it takes to become an officer in the Marines.

Bravo Zulu! We can’t wait to see what you’ll do from here on out!

“This is what happens when you hang up on a Marine Recruiter” - Haley Mikulski

Funny story. I see her number on one of my call back lists. Calls her, she hangs up. I text her “damn”. 2 years later she’s here now. What a rollercoaster of events. Took you too damn long to make it but you’re here now.

You stuck thru it. Despite the naysayers, the doubters and even your own head going against you. You did the damn thing. I’m excited for you and dam proud of what you did so far. October is coming up soon. Let’s get you ready.
