When I went to Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island in September 2013. Then Staff Sergeant Brown was my drill instructor at Platoon 2102 Golf Company. By October 2013, I was told I’d be medically dropped to Medical Rehab Platoon to help heal my stress fracture.
If anyone knows. Being dropped in training while in recruit training is probably the worse news you’ll ever hear. It feels like your dreams and aspirations were crushed then and there.
As I cried waiting for orders from the Senior Drill Instructor. Then SSgt Brown looks at me and said to me “it’s not over, look at me! I made it, you can make it too”. That sentence brought my determination back and saw it thru
12 years later. I see him get promoted to Sergeant Major. This is how it all comes full circle. I’m glad to see him attain this rank. He deserves it and I know the Marine Corps is in good hands.
