What a historic day for our community in New York City! On, December 12, 2025, we proudly unveiled the new “Dr. José P. Rizal Way” street sign at Sohncke Square, 58th Street, and Roosevelt Avenue, right in front of San Sebastian Church.
🎉 This intersection in the heart of Little Manila now has a new landmark that celebrates our heritage.
This co-naming honors Dr. José Rizal – the national hero of the Philippines – and celebrates the vibrant Filipino community that calls New York home.
Rizal championed ideals of justice, equality, and national identity, and now his legacy will live on in our neighborhood as a symbol of Filipino pride and unity. It’s inspiring to see our heritage recognized in the streets of New York City, where so many Filipino-Americans have planted their roots.
Huge thank you to the Office of Assemblymember Steven Raga and the Office of Council Member Julie Won, whose offices sponsored the official street co-naming through the city; to everyone who made this possible; and to all who came out to celebrate. This day was a beautiful testament to the power of community and the bayanihan spirit – our shared sense of unity and helping each other.
Together, we showed what is all about. 🙌🇵đź‡
