Relief printing is a term for various printmaking techniques in which a printing surface is carved away, leaving a positive area to be inked and printed. Learn how to create relief prints this fall! In 4 weeks, students will explore traditional approaches to create relief prints on paper from both wood blocks and linoleum blocks. From a single block printing to multi-layered block registration, this class will give participants the opportunity to dive deep into relief printing 🐳 Visit our website to learn more and register.

New Workshop Alert! We are so excited to launch our first ever Chine-Collé weekend workshops with alejandra arias sevilla coming up soon on August 8 – 9, 2026 📜

You can decide to take one or both of the Weekend workshops — if you register for both Saturday and Sunday, you’ll receive a discounted rate ✨

Drypoint with Chine-Collé (Saturday, August 8):
Participants will learn the importance of traditional wheat starch paste, Japanese pasting stools and East Asian papers. They will explore drypoint mark-making on plates and play with multi-layered chine collé, adding color and tone to a black and white print.

Printing, Seaming, Mounting & Collaging (Sunday, August 9):
This workshop focuses on the principles of chine collé to collage, seam and back prints. Participants will make watercolor monotypes, learn how to cook jin shofu (wheat paste), as well as how to use Japanese pasting stools and East Asian papers.

LESP artists visited MoMA The Museum of Modern Art Print Study Center this week and saw valuable prints up close in person. Thanks to Emily, Emma, and Jeff at the Dept. of Prints and Drawings at MoMA for having our group and pulling out prints from the collection 🙌

During the workshop with ARAS Archive Teens today, our Studio Assistant Intern Liz helped the LESP staff prepare screens, show demos, and print with the first time participants 👏

Last chance to sign up ✨ Join us next Saturday 7/18, for the Pochoir & Relief workshop, led by Andrew Betancourt!
This one-day workshop introduces a hybrid printmaking process combining relief linoleum carving and pochoir techniques. Participants will learn how hand-cut duralar stencils can be used alongside carved linoleum blocks to build layered, multi-color prints with the possibility to explore monoprints and creating editions.

Andrew G.H. Betancourt (Andrew Betancourt ) is a Chicano artist and fine art printmaker from El Paso, Texas, and the current 2026 Marabeth Cohen-Tyler Print/Paper Fellow at Dieu Donné. He earned his BFA in Printmaking and Ceramics with honors from the University of Texas at El Paso. He then completed a three-plus year apprenticeship with Master Printer Brian Shure at Anderson Ranch Arts Center, producing editions for artists including Meleko Mokgosi, Elliott Hundley, Steve Locke, and Felipe Baeza.

Today is the last day of the Keyholder Residency for Maha, Melissa, Natasha, Katya, and Mira! Thanks to the Keyholders for making exciting works during the residency 🤗

Last week, the Keyholders gathered with Summer Keyholders, Wenfei, Amelia and Leekyung, and shared the works they all have been working on in the studio last week. We look forward to seeing the final works in a group exhibition this September 💞
