Lower East Side Printshop, founded in 1968, is a not-for-profit print studio in New York City that helps contemporary artists create new artwork and advance their careers.

Plans next weekend?! LESP is participating in the Open House New York Festival on October 16 and 17. Visit our studios to see the exhibition, “Making Strange”, learn about classes and studio programs, and meet with the artists!

Welcoming Rita and Ruth as Studio Assistant Interns this fall!

Rita Luu (second slide) is an artist based in Brooklyn and a recent Studio Arts graduate from Stony Brook University. There, she found her love in printmaking, poetry, and textiles. Her practice explores the small details and noticings of everyday life, and how we are all connected through these shared moments. Here, at LESP, Rita is excited to see and experience all the inner workings of a non-profit printshop, as well as ask all the questions she can to absorb all there is to learn about printmaking in all its forms.

Ruth Marks (third slide) is a printmaker and illustrator from New York City. She received her B.F.A. from the Stamps School of Art & Design at the University of Michigan in 2025. There, she discovered her love for all things print media— from practicing traditional print techniques, working as Art Director for campus publications, and learning the history of bookmaking and print production. In her work, Ruth is interested in the ways in which people across time and space are entangled and connected. She hopes to represent how small, incremental changes build the shared present moment.

Love to paint? Want to try out printmaking? Check out water-based monotype - the best of both worlds!

This weekend workshop will introduce students to the most unique technique in printmaking! Learn how to combine painterly gestures with layering on-plate elements including textured materials, stencils, and cut paper drawings. Students will learn work in both additive and reductive forms of monotype printing on the press with non-toxic, water-soluble materials and a variety of mark making tools. No printmaking experience needed.
