To all my Facebook connections,

Since founding Core Staffing over 30 years ago, we’ve been through many difficult and trying times – 9/11, recessions, blackouts, Sandy, etc. The coronavirus/COVID-19 outbreak adds a new chapter to all of our lives. Even those who haven’t been personally affected are very anxious for fear that they—or their loved ones—are at risk. Like all challenges we have faced, this is a time to come together as a community and to be there for our neighbors.

We just wanted to let you know that we’re still here for you. While we have modified our schedule to accommodate colleagues at risk, our office is fully operational.

Please do not hesitate to reach out to us.

Be safe,
Mitch

To create a solid skills section you should focus on your hard skills. The first step is to differentiate between your soft versus hard skills. Soft skills include abilities such as being detail oriented or having an exceptional work ethic.
Hard skills are specific and quantifiable; they include typing, writing or knowledge of any software programs such as Microsoft office, salesforce or adobe etc.

It is best to include hard skills in your resume. You will have the chance to showcase your soft skills during the interview, which is when you will have the opportunity to expand on your background. Soft skills can also be included in your cover letter where you will be able to back them up with specific examples or stories.

The theme for this week’s resume tip is (often times) less is more. The more focused your resume is, the easier it is for the recruiter reviewing your background to have a clear grasp of your experience in relation to the role you’re applying for. The following excerpt from the Muse sums up this tip perfectly!
- Don’t Put Everything On Your Resume
Your resume should not have every work experience you have ever had listed on it. Think of your resume not as a comprehensive list of your career history, but as a marketing document selling you as the perfect person for the job. For each resume you send out, you will want to highlight only the accomplishments and skills that are most relevant to the job at hand (even if that means you don’t include all of your experience). –

This week's resume tip piggy backs off of last week's advice, it provides more insight into how to tailor the language of your resume. Since your resume is ultimately a communication tool, precise language is a fundamental aspect of drafting an effective resume. This article from the Vault.com gives you simple yet practical direction to help with wording your resume.

"In all forms of writing, including resumes and cover letters, the most important question to ask is, "Who is my audience?" It may seem contradictory, but you are not writing your resume for yourself; you are writing it for the person who reads it, and you want that person to call you immediately to schedule an interview. Therefore, your resume needs to catch that person's attention and show how you can meet that person's needs.

Wednesdays Are for Spruced-up Resumes.
If you find resume drafting intimidating or challenging we want to help! We will be sharing resume tips on Wednesdays to help you with structuring your CV. We’ll include general resume tips as well as tips related to the industries we specialize in including administrative, finance, human resources and graphic design. This first tip is an excerpt from an article on HerMoney.com.

“When you send your resume out in answer to an advertisement, let the job description in that advertisement guide you in what to include—and remove —from your resume. Especially in big companies, the initial sorting of candidates may be done by computer or by a person moving really quickly. The more words in the ad you match, the more likely you may be to surface from the pile. “Take a look at the job description, understand what the company’s looking for,” says Wolfe. “Then really take a look at your skills and your experiences and hone those to help represent why you’re the best candidate for that job.”

In the beginning stages of the resume reviewing process hiring personnel are really searching for keywords that help them narrow down there search. If you’ve been applying for a while, but haven’t been getting the response you would like, taking the time to tailor your resume to fit each role you’re applying for may be one way to get a better response from employers.
Comment below on the roadblocks you’re coming across on your job search (resume or interview skills so we can help you address them.
