rk, members of the IUBAC Local 1, NY have built and restored some of the most iconic buildings in New York City and Long Island including the Empire State Building, St. Patrick's Catherdral, the Chrysler Building, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Grand Central Terminal, Yankee Stadium, Citi Field and the World Trade Center Memorial. We continue to build as our predecessors did – laying block and brick, setting stone, plastering, pointing, caulking and cleaning – with individual units of material, piece by piece to create a tight, masterful and lasting structure.

🚨 ATTENTION ALL BAC LOCAL 1 MEMBERS! 🚨
Check Your NYC DOB Certifications & Worker Cards
Make sure your NYC Department of Buildings (DOB) certifications and SST/Worker Wallet cards are up to date! These credentials are just as important as the tools you use on the job — and they’re required for all projects within the five boroughs.
We’ve seen too many members removed from sites due to expired certifications, causing setbacks for both you and the contractors. Don’t let that happen — take a minute right now to check your cards and confirm everything is current.
Your attention to this keeps our projects running safely and on schedule.
✅ Stay certified. Stay ready. Stay Union Strong.

Proud to stand alongside our union brothers and sisters at the 2026 New York Helmets to Hardhats Annual Open House held at the IUEC Local 1 Training Center in Long Island City on Thursday, May 7th.
BAC Local 1 NY was honored to connect with veterans exploring careers in the union building trades, sharing firsthand insight into the training, opportunities, and lifelong benefits that come with a union career. From apprenticeship pathways to building a strong future, it was an incredible opportunity to showcase what our trade is all about.

A special thank you to our Brothers for taking the time to speak with attendees and help guide the next generation:

• Arnaldo Martinez
• Lorenzo Peralta
• Kevin Rice
• Guy Leggio

From Curiosity to Career: A Union Trades Journey

Eric Rodriguez’s story is a powerful example of how exposure, mentorship, and hands-on experience can lead to a meaningful career in the union construction industry.

After connecting with safety instructor Paul Silva during a project at Woodlawn Cemetery, Eric spent 11 weeks gaining real-world experience—an opportunity that sparked his interest in the trades. That moment led him to join the Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers Local 1 NY Pre-Job Program, specializing in pointing, caulking, and cleaning (PCC).

Eric’s journey began even earlier through a CTE (Career & Technical Education) program at Stephen T. Mather High School, where he discovered a passion for historic preservation and architecture. Today, he’s turning that passion into a career—preparing to enter the workforce as a union tradesman.

His message is simple:
Opportunities are out there—sometimes all it takes is one connection to change your path.

If you’re interested in a hands-on career, strong wages, and long-term growth, programs like BAC Local 1 provide a direct pathway into the union trades.
