From the very beginning, a baby’s brain is actively building the foundations for learning and memory, and this process accelerates rapidly in the first few years. ✨ It’s the start of a lifelong journey of discovery that we absolutely love.

Understanding milestones helps nannies and parents support development with intention. For both, this knowledge becomes a guide for creating developmentally appropriate activities that engage kiddos and help them build new skills.

Here’s a quick snapshot of the first three years:
0–6 months: social smiles, cooing, rolling, secure attachment
7–12 months: sitting, crawling, babbling, object permanence
12–18 months: walking, first words, early pretend play
18–24 months: two-word phrases, climbing, growing independence
2–3 years: 3+ word sentences, imaginative play, big emotions

Don’t forget, milestones aren’t a race - they’re a roadmap! 🤍

Diverse books aren’t a trend or a checkbox.

They belong at every single table. Not just during heritage months or theme days, but always.

In homes.
In classrooms.
In libraries.
In lap time before bed.

When we treat diverse books like something extra, we’re telling kids that only some stories are the real ones… the rest are optional.

But stories shape identity. They build empathy. They grow curiosity.
EVERY child deserves a robust, rich tasting of the world.

News Flash: Finding a single 'perfect' school doesn't exist. It's about finding a community where your family's values are reflected, and your child is empowered to grow.

There are so many different education styles, and choosing the “right one” or working with a combination of pedagogies comes down to one thing… doing your research and trusting your gut.

Which alternatives do you have experience with? Is there one you feel drawn to for your kids?

A year ago, we pulled up some extra chairs and started something new: our Community Advisory Committee. We’ve learned more than we could have guessed, and as we step into Year Two, there’s fresh leadership and plenty of space for new voices to join us at the table.

The CAC is here to be a real bridge between the people doing the work and the folks making the decisions—a group that takes what’s happening on the ground and turns it into guidance that actually matters. By showing up, sharing ideas, and rolling up their sleeves on projects, this committee keeps our standards high, our community strong, and our focus right where it belongs: on people.

Meet our new Chair: Clara Akwarandu.

Clara was one of the first to sign up when the committee formed and she’s been a pillar of the CAC, helping to shape its goals and vision, and is ready to lead.

Outside of her work with us, Clara also serves as the Director of Community & Partnerships at the Nanny Relief Fund, and is pursuing a Master’s in Human Development and Family Science with a concentration in Family and Community Services. Her work is centered on building the support systems children, families, and our professional community actually need. We are so excited for her to step into this role and can’t wait to see how the CAC flourishes under her leadership.

To Emily, Alene, Cynthia, Monique, and Lissah: thank you for building Year One with us. You jumped in, trusted the vision, and every single one of you helped us to build this committee into something real.

And now, the table’s getting bigger.

We’re adding new voices to the committee, and applications are open through June 30. We want career nannies, NCS pros, educators, and advocates whose work or lives have touched the caregiving community — especially those bringing lived experience from communities this industry tends to overlook.

Swipe through to meet Clara and the cohort who built Year One, and details about how to apply. 🧡

When you’re a household manager, you’re not just managing schedules… you’re spending someone else’s money. That takes trust.

In this episode of Adventure Nannies On Air, we dive into how transparency around money can create that trust from day one. Being clear about your process shows them: “I value your dollar just as much as you do, if not more.”

This is the only true “shortcut” to trust.

Being transparent in how you’re managing the family builds confidence, professionalism, and long-term relationships that feel good on both sides.

What happens when the workday is over? Who’s pouring back into you?

Showing up for yourself fuels the career YOU want.

The biggest piece? You need your people. We’re talking about the kind of community that gets it. The friends you can laugh, vent, and dream with... who see you as more than just "the nanny."

While you’re on the clock, you’re the rock for someone else. Off the clock, your community is that rock for you. ⏰
