Generally speaking, in New York, you should never have to pay your employer for your uniform, and your employer should never deduct the cost of the uniform from your paycheck. If your employer charges you for your uniform, you are probably entitled to money in a lawsuit that we can prosecute for you.

In New York if you have a Required Uniform, you may be entitled to extra pay each week called Uniform Maintenance Pay. The New York Labor Law mandates every week extra pay for each employee who qualifies for Uniform Maintenance Pay. Over the course of a year, that could add up to almost $1,000 in extra pay.

Uniform rules depend on what industry you work in.

In restaurants, fast food, or hotels, it depends on how many uniforms the company gives you.

If you work construction, retail, security, warehouse, delivery, logistics, airport then it depends on how much you get paid per hour, If you are paid minimum wage or close to it then you must be paid Uniform Maintenance Pay regardless of how many uniforms you are provided.
