Once again, New York City faces a shortage of lifeguards throughout its beaches and parks this summer. In response, the City has offered increased pay, completion bonuses, and more training opportunities. Yet job openings still remain....in larger numbers. Learn more here:

Surfs up, numbers down. The Parks Department says that low staffing won’t keep any beaches or pools closed for now, even though there are just 480 guards ready to go — out of a desired 1,400.

Gov. Kathy Hochul has announced increases in the minimum wage across New York State, including plans for the minimum wage in NYC and surrounding counties to increase to $17/hour by 2026. These increases are critical amid a rising cost of living for New Yorkers. Learn more here:

Governor Hochul announced that the FY 2024 Budget agreement includes a transformative plan to help low-wage New Yorkers keep up with the rising cost of living by increasing New York's minimum wage for three years and then tying future increases to inflation.
