Ever get rejected for a job you know you were qualified for?

It’s confusing. You wonder where you went wrong? Was it something you said in the interview? Was there something off in your body language?
Was it personal? You checked all the boxes!

The reason given is always vague. A generic email thanking you for your time but saying that they selected someone who was a “better fit.”

You’re left thinking that you weren’t good enough which simply isn’t true.
Truth is, you didn’t get the job is because you ARE qualified and a perfect skills match for the job. The hiring manager knew you were perfect, would be very successful, would challenge them in the name of excellence, and they simply didn’t want that.

They wanted someone who would execute their vision, make their job easier, and make them look good without upstaging them. There’s limited movement at their level, they want to keep their job, and don’t want someone under them shining to brightly.

That’s not you.

This isn’t an insult and you shouldn’t take it as rejection. Take it as a compliment and seek opportunities where you don’t have to dull your shine.

The next time you have the opportunity to toot your own horn and you feel tempted to be humble, remember this video.

No lengthy caption necessary. Book the vacation and put the out of office notice on everyone’s calendar. 🏖️ ☀️ 😃

You know that colleague that’s always overwhelmed even when there’s nothing to do? No matter how slow the days is, even when there’s nothing aren’t any meetings taking place and the office is empty - they always seem like the hardest worker in the office?

There’s an important lesson you can learn from them.

People will value your work as much as you do. If you place value on your contributions and are able to articulate that value, those around you will see you as more valuable too.

Stop saying that you don’t have anything going on while doing the work of 3 people. Stop saying that your days are slow or easy when they aren’t. Stop replaying to request with “sure” “I can’t handle it” “I’ve got it!” You think you’re communicating competence. What you’re really saying is that you aren’t working on anything important or complicated. You’re burning out while simultaneously communicating that you aren’t adding value.

This gives the impression that you’re expendable so from now on, you’re very very busy. You have a ton going on. It’s going to take time for you to get to that thing and you’re going to check your calendar before committing. Got it? Good!

As a senior leader, the time it takes for you to reply to emails sends a message. It sends a message about your time, ability to prioritize, and thoughtfulness in decision making.

Replying to everyone quickly says, “I have nothing better to do.” It says, “I am sending a response without giving the request a good amount of thought.” It says, “I’m not important.”
None of these are messages you want to send as an executive. Especially if you’re a woman, person of color, or new in the role.

When emailing, take your time. Think through what is being asked. Consider how this impacts the business and ask clarifying questions before offering a response or decision.

Your decisions carry great impact. Act like it, even when emailing.

You crushed the interview and made it to the 2nd round? 👏🏽 Congratulations! That’s a WIN. Take a moment to celebrate it.

But here’s where many candidates go wrong… they get comfortable.

Second rounds are where the competition tightens and where ego can quietly derail the process. Stay focused and keep the momentum going.

What to do:
✨ Acknowledge the moment. Celebrate the progress. You earned it.
✨ Follow up within 24 hours. Reinforce why your skills are the right match and express your excitement for next steps.
✨ Prepare for the next round. Build new STAR stories, research who you’ll be meeting with, and plan your outfit ahead of time.

What NOT to do:
🚫 Don’t assume the offer is yours.
🚫 Don’t mentally check out.
🚫 And please don’t resign from your current job yet.

Even if they tell you you’re the best candidate they’ve ever met… it’s not an offer until it’s in writing, pre-employment steps are cleared, and you have a confirmed start date.

Celebrate the progress, but stay sharp until the offer is signed.

Your next round could be the one that changes everything.

Interview prep isn’t about memorization. It’s about Strategy. Clarity. Communication.

✨ Strategy – Employers walk into interviews with a plan. You need one too. Your strategy is positioning your experience so clearly and confidently that you become the only viable option. This is business.

✨ Clarity – “I don’t have that experience” is rarely true. Most candidates do have the answer — they just haven’t connected the dots. Clarity helps you see how your background aligns with the role and own it.

✨ Communication – This is the differentiator. How you articulate your experience and manage your non-verbal presence is what sets you apart — especially when curveball questions come your way.

You can’t predict every question. Interviews are conversations. But when you’re grounded in strategy, clear on your value, and able to communicate it effectively — you position yourself to win.

Landing interviews but not getting the offer? Let’s fix that. 💼✨

Recently landed a new role after being unemployed for a while?

Great! Congratulations! Now’s the perfect time to focus on your financial goals.

Being unemployed can wreak havoc on one’s financial stability having to deduct funds from savings accounts, liquidate investments, and deduct money from your retirement.

Now that you’re back to work it’s the perfect time to focus on rebuilding these accounts. If you didn’t have these set up before, this is the perfect time to start as you move forward in your new position.

Here are some things to keep in mind that will help you Rebuild or build in the right ways.

1. Establish realistic savings and investment goals that you can maintain.

2. Set up automatic deductions to keep yourself on track.

3. Build/rebuild investments so you aren’t relying purely on your paycheck and interest for income.

4. Had to deduct funds from your retirement accounts? When filing your taxes, be sure to take care of any IRS penalties and avoid more costly issues later on.

5. Chat with a financial advisor to make the most out of any existing 401K, 401A, etc. accounts. Most providers will assign a free advisor if you qualify. Just ask!

Landing a new role is exciting! Make the most out of it but securing your financial positions. 💰💵💚
