Meet our summer intern, Emma Baldwin!

“My name is Emma Baldwin and I am a rising 2L at New York Law School. This summer at Leav & Steinberg I was an intern after completing my first year of law school. I am so grateful to have had this experience learning from some of the best trial attorneys who have now become mentors to me.
Leav & Steinberg allowed me to refine skills like my legal writing, assist in researching court motions, watch the client intake process, and understand the inner workings of litigation. I also had the opportunity to be a part of a trial from jury selection all the way to verdict!
This summer was so unique in the sense that I had the chance to actually have a role in the process and hands-on experience. That is a testament to the amazing team at Leav & Steinberg who were always encouraging us to learn and gain practical skills.”

Intern Spotlight: Henry Peacock ⚖️

A Look Inside His Summer at Leav & Steinberg

“I’ve really enjoyed my internship with Leav & Steinberg this summer. I’ve had the opportunity to gain hands-on exposure to personal injury and medical malpractice work and learn more about how cases are handled from intake through litigation.

One of the biggest things I’ve taken away from the experience is how much work goes into building and managing a case behind the scenes. I’ve also really enjoyed working with the attorneys and staff and getting a better understanding of the legal field.

I’m very grateful for the experience and everything I’ve learned this summer.”

Meet our summer intern, Joseph Levy! “My name is Joseph Levy, and I am a rising 3L at New York Law School. I am currently a summer intern at Leav & Steinberg. I was also a summer intern last summer and returned because I loved it so much. I am also working part-time here in the fall during school, with hopes of working here when I graduate law school.

After spending two summers here, I have developed a much clearer sense of the career I want to pursue and the lawyer I want to become. I owe that to Leav & Steinberg and the people here who took the time to teach me along the way.

Most importantly, I’ve learned what it means to be a good lawyer. It means to be a good person, a true advocate for your client, and to help someone who doesn’t have the legal means to help themselves.

Unfortunately, my younger brother, Jack, passed away in a car accident at the age of 18. Since then, I have been looking for a true purpose in my career. Leav & Steinberg provided me with that—to spend my career helping others get through the hardest moments of their lives and get them the justice they deserve.

I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to work at Leav & Steinberg. I look forward to continuing my journey with Leav & Steinberg.”

Our firm secured a $1.3 million settlement for a woman who was 56 years old when she slipped and fell on water inside an apartment at a public housing complex in 2020.

Our client was staying with a family member who had reported a leak in the kitchen days earlier. We claimed that workers were sent to address the leak but left the area unattended. Our client, who had been sleeping while the work was being performed, later walked past the kitchen, slipped on water, and fell.

A critical part of the case came down to the records. The housing complex had opened a work ticket before the accident and later closed it as repaired, but could not produce proof documenting when the workers were actually inside the apartment. Our team demanded the records and evidence surrounding the repair, and the lack of documentation became an important part of our case.

Our client suffered an aggravation of a neck injury from six years earlier. As her pain became unbearable, she ultimately underwent a cervical discectomy with fusion.

The case was scheduled for trial this December and was truly an all-hands-on-deck effort.

Partners Daniela Henriques and Alex Kran initially worked on the matter. Earlier this year, Partner Ricardo Martinez was assigned the case for trial. He handled the defense depositions and fully prepared the matter for both trial and mediation.

With the defense’s previous offer at $300,000, Founding Partner Edward Steinberg and Managing Attorney Rikki Davidoff handled an intensive three-hour mediation that ultimately resulted in a $1.3 million settlement.

This result will help provide our client with the resources for ongoing treatment and the opportunity for a more meaningful future.

Summer camp should be a place where children make memories—not suffer preventable injuries.

Camps have a legal duty to provide proper supervision, maintain safe facilities, train staff, and have emergency plans in place. When that duty is neglected, serious injuries can happen.

Our latest blog explores the common causes of summer camp injuries, explains your legal rights under New York law, and outlines the steps to take if you or a loved one has been injured due to camp negligence.
