Find Me, Please: 8 Steps to Help a Headhunter Find You
Attracting headhunters is easy. You just have to attract them to you. Here are some steps to help you get noticed.
1. Your reputation. You must be out there to be in the game. Google yourself and see what shows up. Add content to your social media sites. Clean up old posts.
2. Your LinkedIn profile. Keep it updated and have clear, concise descriptions of what you have done/are doing. Make sure the dates, titles etc. agree with your resume.
3. Keep and update your network. Whether it’s a headhunter, association contact or friend, you want to stay in touch. You can check in, send birthday/holiday greetings, congratulate them, acknowledge their online content and share information. If they find out about a position, you want them to remember you.
4. Prepare. If you get a call, be able to speak about new and creative ideas you have implemented or suggested, how you are helping/mentoring staff, what are your shortcomings and what are you doing to improve. Show that you are a leader.
5. Keep up on industry trends and how you are incorporating them into your job. Attend industry events and meetings, headhunters do.
6. Act like a leader, let your confidence come through on the phone/zoom meeting.
7. Make sure your career shows progress. No one wants a job hopper, but they do want someone who has seized the right opportunities. Each move you have made should show progression toward your goals.
8. Don’t forget to research and seek out headhunters. Introduce yourself. They may not have something for you right away, but they won’t forget you if you present yourself properly.
