An individual using the email [email protected] is cold contacting artists claiming to work for Republic Records A&R. This is a scam. Always look for business specific domains. You will not be contacted via Gmail, Yahoo, Hotmail, etc.

SCAM ALERT:
Individuals in the Detroit, Michigan area are using Facebook accounts to impersonate A&R personnel and individuals close to prominent artists. The following will occur:

1) A Facebook account will contact/friend you, begin a conversation in Messenger.

Example: This is a scam account!

2) You will be provided a fraudulent number in the California area.

3) You will receive a call which appears to come from a prominent music company, but this number is FAKE/SPOOFED. Rob Stevenson from UMG is a prominent "caller" in these scams.

4) They will claim to set up a flight and hotel for you, but ask for a good faith payment up front of around $500. They will ask to have money sent via Western Union (or something similar) to a Michigan location.

5) After money is received you will be blocked on Facebook and there will no longer be phone access.

A person claiming to be John Janick from Interscope Records is contacting prospective musicians via e-mail to setup meetings. "Janick" is seeking money up front as an alleged down payment for flights/hotels for the meeting, promising it will be returned.

In one known instance, "Janick" asked for money to be sent via PayPal. Beware of other forms of money transfer such as bank transfer or Western Union. No money should exchange hands in a deal with a reputable record label.

"Janick" is using the e-mail address [email protected] and the number 310.469.9783.

SCAM ALERT: Facebook users claiming to be people like Scooter Braun or "Akon's Brother" are offering fraudulent music sessions with artists like Chris Brown. These users will then place a spoofed call which appears to be a Universal Music number and they will claim to be Mike Tunnicliffe from Universal Music Group.

The scammer will claim to have a room booked at a hotel for you, which you can call to verify. The room will be booked without a deposit and go unpaid in your name. Lastly, they will ask for a 10% deposit up front as a fee for arranging this session.

The phone number associated with this scam is 818-287-9509. They are using the e-mail [email protected], however, they tend to create a new Gmail account with each attempted scam.

REMINDER: No A&R or studio representative will ask for money for your services. If someone is asking you to pay to perform or record music, it is very likely a scam.
