Introduction to Key #19 Brown Resumes

"When they go low, we go high."- Michelle Obama

It's Sunday, June 12, 2020, I am lying in my bed, and for some reason, I decided to check the Yelp business page for Brown Resumes. To my surprise, I learned that I received a 1-star review dated June 7, 2020. My blood immediately began to boil, and the tears started flowing. I said to myself, why would someone intentionally want to sabotage Brown Resumes' reputation and ruin everything I worked so hard to build?

After a few minutes of deep ponder, God revealed to me who this mystery person was, and sadly, this person was not a customer. If there is anyone in my life that has been passionate about defaming my character and humiliating me for almost 20 years it is this person. This person is my brother's wife, who goes by the name of Tasha in my debut memoir "How God Used 25 Keys To Unlock Her Purpose." I didn't respond to the review because I didn't want to give any life to it. Because I ignored it, Tasha created several fake pages to harass me on the Brown Resumes business page by using the visitor page option to post disgusting comments under my pictures to humiliate me publicly and discredit my business. Why was she on this rampage, you ask? Well, her anger exploded after an altercation we had days prior in which she assaulted a family member and me, but the reality is this anger has been brewing since earlier in the year.

Receiving that review made me depressed and brought me to a shallow place because if there is anything I worked the hardest to preserve in my business, it was my reputation. I served my customers selflessly. She doesn't know how much Brown Resumes, my daughter, and I suffered and lost because of her review. I could have quickly returned the favor to her husband’s business but I have never been a person that sought revenge. Like Michelle Obama, I enjoy taking the high road! That road is where the "Good Karma" rests. Despite that negative review Brown Resumes has been recognized as one of the best resume writing services in New York City for the second consecutive year by a phenomenal company named Find My Profession.

Kesha Brown – The “Keys Book” Title Unveiling and Introduction:

In the summer of 2018, Brown Resumes unveiled its new website. Shortly thereafter, the company launched a new product: blog posts. What I didn’t know then was that God was preparing me to write a book—something I’d never dreamt of doing.

Along my 40-year life journey, I have had the most UNIQUE experiences—professionally and personally—both good and, of course, bad. The bad experiences often left me with a broken heart, depressed, and feeling every harsh emotion. I eventually forgave those who hurt me, moving on with my life, and never considering putting my experiences in a book.

There is a Woody Allen saying, “If you want to make God laugh, tell him your plans.” It was God’s plan all along for me to write this book, and it would take Him exactly three years from the launch of Brown Resume’s blog to get me ready to write and release it.

Here is a brief description of my emotionally-charged, page-turning debut memoir, titled How God Used 25 Keys to Unlock Her Purpose. The book is part tell-all, part cautionary tale. I discuss all the keys God used to prepare me for the liftoff and landing that led to this very moment.

Ultimately, the sweet and sour events of my life were arranged to serve a higher purpose, one greater than I ever could have imagined. I am humbled, honored, and extremely excited to share my journey with all of you. The “Keys Book” official cover design and release date will be unveiled soon.

“75% of Black Americans who are eligible for jobs do not have a college degree. That’s a real issue! The systemic issue out there is the job requirements in job descriptions are not relevant to the actual performance of the job.” -Ken Chennault, founder of OneTen and General Catalyst, and former CEO of American Express

I am a member of this group of Black Americans who don’t have a college degree. Over the past two decades, I have faced the following:

1. Discriminatory job applications, and disqualification from opportunities despite relevant experience.
2. Premature judgment of my professional competencies.
3. Being passed over for promotions.
4. Disrespect and dismissal of my ideas in the boardroom.

This is a triggering topic for me.

But after years of struggling to complete a degree, I’m beginning to understand God’s greater plan for my life. Brown Career Labs, coming soon, will strive to close the opportunity gap facing Black Americans in the workforce.

It was an absolute pleasure listening to Ken Chennault—a leader and trailblazer I deeply admire—speak passionately on the topic of building an inclusive workplace at the Bloomberg Equality Summit.

Thank you for using OneTen as a vehicle to steer the job market (not to mention countless career trajectories) in the right direction!

My middle name is Monet.

In this excerpt from my debut book--a chapter that actually serves as the prequel to the sequel!--I discuss the captivating tale of how I came to be named after the famous French painter Claude Oscar Monet. I would like to preface this teaser and my debut book with four principles that have helped me navigate the world:

1. Be mindful of how you treat those whom you think you won’t need.
2. You never know how God plans to use a person in the world and in your life.
3. Don’t count anyone out. That will be your blind spot.
4. Every person that God brings into your life is a gift. Treat them as such.

I hope you enjoy this excerpt and think deeply about the morals I have shared with you. Please like and share. I welcome your honest feedback—as well as the story behind your middle name. Thank you. Book Excerpt Link: https://www.brownresumes.com/post/excerpt-title-the-story-behind-my-middle-name

39 years ago, while riding the train, a pregnant immigrant named Mauvette Brown found the name for her daughter in Essence Magazine. She was reading an article about The Cosby Show, and was inspired by the name of the actress who played Rudy.

Today, Mauvette’s baby girl’s name is featured in the March 2021 issue of ST Magazine, which commemorates International Women’s Day. This feature, found on pg. 20, shares lessons on relationship building informed by more than 20 years of experience in corporate America and entrepreneurship. Thank you so much, ST Magazine, for the opportunity. Thank you, God, for this blessing. Article link: https://st-magazine.com/st-mag-archive/

Thank you, Fuzia Magazine, () for taking the time to interview me about my journey building Brown Resumes. It was a sincere pleasure speaking with you and participating in your mission of empowering women.

Out of the 15 businesses I have launched over the past two decades, the one that has my entire heart is Brown Resumes. It has not been an easy ride, but I am extremely thankful for the highs and the lows. The less-than-ideal moments taught me humility and gratitude---something God knew would be good for me in the end.
