1. The moment the company describes themselves as a “family,” RUN. Family members and coworkers should have very different boundaries. You shouldn’t make the same level of sacrifices for your job that you would for your family. Your relationship with your employer is a BUSINESS relationship at the end of the day.

2. Salary transparency is the fastest way to keep yourself on a level playing field. How else will you know if you’re being underpaid for the SAME work as your coworkers?

3. “At Will” doesn’t mean you can be fired for ANY reason. It means you can’t be fired for any reason that is NOT ILLEGAL. Discrimination, sexual harassment, and retaliation are a few examples that can lead to illegal termination. Even in an At Will state.
