Why do I need a VISA SCREEN? Visa Screen is a federal credentials assessment that verifies an international nurse’s education, license, nursing qualifications, and, when required, English proficiency meet U.S. standards for immigration. A valid Visa Screen certificate is required before an RN can receive an employment-based immigrant visa or adjust status to work as a nurse in the United States. TruMerit - CGFNS is the most commonly used organization to acquire a VS. Valley Medical Staffing always reimburses for the English exam and Visa Screen.

For nurses adjusting their status inside the U.S., a VS is required to file an I-485. For overseas consular process nurses, you must have a VS for the NVC stage before you are eligible to become DQ'd.

OCTOBER VISA BULLETIN HAS LANDED! The first Visa Bulletin of the new 2026-2027 fiscal year shows reactions to patterns in 2026 that left backlogs in certain categories (i.e. ROW), as well as adjustments to expected pipeline management (i.e. China's Dates for Filing EB-3). This month's bulletin has modest movement for the Philippines' Final Action.

Whatever happens with the VB, one thing is certain — It will eventually move. Getting your place in line with a Priority Date is the key to starting your journey. That means securing visa sponsorship as soon as possible. We are always hiring! The country needs more and we'd like to help.

IMPORTANT! For overseas VEMA RN EB-3 green card consular-process candidates, please plan on taking the IELTS English exam (unless you were taught in English, then PTE is acceptable. This is true for many Filipinos, for example). Not every board of nursing accepts all types of English exams (i.e. California), so this is key! If you have a question about your specific case, please ask! You must complete and pass an English exam before you are able to obtain your Visa Screen. You will need your VS for the second stage of your green card process, or during the National Visa Center (NVC) part. We suggest starting on your English exam to VS tasks as soon as you have your I-140 filed. Thank you!
