One thing this work continues to remind me...

Military recruiting is NOT about showing up at a career fair with a table, some brochures, and hoping somebody walks over. 😂

The real work is in the conversations.

Learning what people are looking for.

Understanding where they want to live.

Helping them see how their experience can translate.

Connecting with installation partners, community organizations, hiring leaders, and recruiters who can actually help move somebody forward.

That’s why I love getting out into the military community.

Every conversation may not turn into a hire today.

But relationships matter.

And sometimes one conversation is all it takes to help somebody see a career path they didn’t know was there. 💙

😂 RECRUITER SAID WHAT?

Can we talk about applying for jobs for a second?

Applying to 47 positions at the same company does NOT necessarily increase your chances of getting hired.

Sometimes it tells me you don’t really know what you want. 😩

Slow down.

Read the job description.

Look at the location.

Look at the qualifications.

Ask yourself, “Can I actually explain why my experience makes sense for THIS job?”

Because “I just want to get my foot in the door” may be true...

But your application still has to tell a hiring team where you fit.

Be intentional.

A focused job search will beat a random one almost every time.

💬 SKILLBRIDGE STRAIGHT TALK

One thing I need transitioning service members to understand...

Please don’t wait until the last minute to start thinking about SkillBridge. 🥴

There is more to the process than finding a company you like.

You still have to research opportunities, make connections, interview, get command approval, think about relocation if needed, AND prepare for what happens after the fellowship.

And here’s the big one...

SkillBridge should be part of your transition plan. It should not BE your entire transition plan.

The goal is not just to land a fellowship.

The goal is to position yourself for what comes next. 💙

Start early. Ask questions. Build relationships. And keep applying for direct-hire opportunities too.
