Overview We’re seeking an experienced Finishing Room Manager to lead a high-volume finishing operation within our manufacturing facility. This role oversees team performance, production quality, safety, and continuous improvement initiatives to meet schedule, cost, and quality targets. Top pay offered commensurate with experience.
Key Responsibilities
Lead, mentor, and schedule a finishing team of 20+ employees, ensuring safe, efficient, and timely operations.
Own daily production planning, throughput, and resource allocation for the Finishing Room.
Drive quality standards for painting, spraying, and staining; troubleshoot defects and implement corrective actions.
Champion LEAN manufacturing practices (5S, standard work, visual management, waste reduction) to improve flow and reduce variability.
Maintain and calibrate finishing equipment; coordinate preventive maintenance and repairs.
Manage inventory and usage of coatings, stains, paints, and related materials; ensure accurate barcoding and traceability.
Collaborate cross-functionally with Production, Quality, Engineering, and Supply Chain to meet customer requirements.
Train team members on finish colors, door/drawer front styles, accessory basics, wood species identification, and safety procedures.
Track and report KPIs (yield, first-pass quality, rework, OEE, safety incidents); implement continuous improvement projects.
Qualifications
Minimum 3 years of management experience leading teams of at least 20 employees, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
Bachelor’s degree preferred, ideally in manufacturing, operations, industrial engineering, or related field.
Extensive knowledge of:
LEAN manufacturing and structured problem-solving.
Wood species identification and barcoding basics.
Finish colors, door/drawer front styles, and accessory basics.
Finishing equipment and different coatings (paints, stains, sealers, topcoats).
Painting, spraying, and staining techniques and best practices.
Strong understanding of tools, equipment, and materials common to the construction materials industry.
Proven ability to analyze data, set priorities, and deliver results in a fast-paced environment.
Effective leadership, communication, and training skills; comfortable holding teams accountable to standards.
Working knowledge of safety regulations and quality systems.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements
Manufacturing floor environment with exposure to finishing materials and equipment.
Ability to stand, move, lift up to 40 lbs, and wear required PPE.
