March is multiple myeloma (MM) awareness month and I am going to make some posts to help spread awareness 🙌
MM is most common in black males, average age 70. When I got diagnosed I had never heard of the disease, and of course I was surprised to know I had cancer! And as luck has it I am an outlier within the demographics of MM 😔
It’s important to inform others to go see a doctor if they are experiencing bone pain, or back pain of any kind. There are a lot of easy tests available to identify this disease: bloodwork is the quickest, also urine analysis can pick up some indicators that something is wrong in the body, and of course bone scans, MRIs, PETs, and then bone marrow biopsies are the gold standard tests to confirm the disease.
Check out the radio show from earlier this month where I talked with Jim Shoemaker about Mutliple Myeloma on his 98.9FM radio show “Talk Money”. The MM segment starts around 15 minutes
