Kansas Farmers Union

Kansas Farmers Union Kansas Farmers Union is a general farm organization based in McPherson, Kansas affiliated with the National Farmers Union in Washington, D.C.

Kansas Farmers Union represents its members who are engaged in various farming and ranching pursuits through cooperation, legislation, and education. We believe that family ownership of farm land is the basis for the world's most viable system of food and fiber production and that maintaining this family farm system will preserve our country's natural and human resources.

Today, across the world, people gather to honor the dignity of work and the power of working people. And here in the heart of the U.S., we stand in a place where the story of farmer–labor solidarity isn’t just our history—it’s our inheritance.

Kansas has always been a proving ground for people who refuse to be divided. Out here, we know that the person who harvests the wheat and the person who mills it are not opponents. The person who tends cattle and the person who cuts and packages beef are not strangers. The teacher, the nurse, the grain‑truck driver, the meatpacking worker, the farm family—they are all part of the same story. They rise and fall together.

And when they stand together, Kansas rises.

More than a century ago, farmers and workers in this state built movements that shook the foundations of power. The Populists, the Nonpartisan League, the Farmer–Labor Party—these weren’t abstract political experiments. They were born from the lived reality of Kansans who understood that the forces squeezing farmers were the same forces squeezing workers. They knew that the railroads, the banks, and the monopolies didn’t care whether you wore overalls or carried a lunch pail. They cared about control.

On this May Day, we recommit ourselves to standing arm in arm with our brothers and sisters in the labor movement.

April 15, 2026

Since 1907, Kansas Farmers Union has worked to protect and enhance the economic interests and quality of life for family farmers, ranchers, and their communities.

The moral and ethical decisions made by individuals and governments have an impact on our daily lives, and on the lives of future generations.

Farmers Union’s policy strives to ensure those decisions maintain a just and ethical basis. Our policy also addresses the use of our natural resources and environment with the same fervor.

With that in mind, Kansas Farmers Union’s Board of Directors unequivocally supports National Farmers Union’s (NFU’s) 2026 Policy and Action Statement on data centers which calls for local oversight over data center development proposals requiring an affirmative vote from impacted voters prior to any approval or permitting.

The policy opposes:
• The development of data centers that increase local electricity rates, cause brownouts, contaminate or deplete water supplies, or exacerbate contamination of water supplies;
• The siting of data centers on productive soils;
• Subsidies or tax credits/breaks for construction and operation of data centers; and
• Nondisclosure agreements regarding data centers.

KFU’s Board of Directors gathered in today for its quarterly meeting. Aside from all of the important business items on the agenda, we also got to hear from Abilene Mayor Brandon Rein about all of the wonderful things that are happening around town. It wasn’t all business, though: we also had a little fun taking a selfie in front of the world‘s largest belt buckle. Many thanks to board member for hosting us today, and for the wonderful home-cooked meal!
